Got in 9 easy miles last night. Had my VO2 and blood work review yesterday. All good news. Morpheus chest strap came in today. Synching it to my Garmin data and will start using it next week. This will be fun.

Which one?

Thinking about signing up for Miss Gulf Coast HM in December. It’s 5-6 weeks before my full in Houston, so good timing. Anyone else running it this year?
Maybe. That E to W wind is brutal. May just do the 10k.
I’ll need to start adding a mile per week on my “long” runs get to where I need to be for the 1/2.

Amazing Race! Do you have a goal in mind? Or just going to complete it?
Rocket City is currently my PB in the Marathon (at least until June...)
With it being December in Alabama it could be 78 degrees at the start, or 42 degrees at the start - still a great race either way

It is really well put together. Two years ago is misted/drizzled the entire half and I went sub 2 hrs.
quote:Dream would be sub 4. Realistically, I think I would be happy with 4:15. I'm doing death by 5k 3 weeks before which is poor planning but the Rocket City bib fell in my lap

How does the elevation profile compare between St. Jude in Memphis and Rocket City? Is it flatter than St. Jude?

They both have about 850ft of elevation gain (St. Jude 820, Rocket City 850) and Rocket City doesn't end lower than it started like St. Jude does. They are actually very very similar: size, support, weather, time of the year, etc.

Just do 7 laps max and taper after. 21-22 miles is a perfect peak week amount
The only thing I would make sure to do if it's 2 "full" weeks before is make sure to drop your milage a smidge the week before death by 5k. If it's a full 3 weeks before, you should be Golden

3 miles easy at 10:30/mile.
3 miles at VO2: 8:20, 7:00, 7:21
Felt great. Beer and wings for dinner.

For the Baton Rouge and surrounding areas folks, the Golden Fliers 5 & 10 miler is back this year... Bad news is it isn't around the lakes anymore. Looks like it will start somewhere near L'Auberge. I'm glad its back, and who ever is responsible for only allowing "certain" races to take place around the lakes, I hope they have explosive diarrhea.

Tiger 10k also keeps getting pushed back. Apparently they didn't take into account that LSU might host a CFP game and the race is being moved to late spring.

Is this race put on by the same folks as the Louisiana Marathon?
Maybe it will fall between Mardi Gras Mambo 10k (Baton Rouge Feb 15, 2025) and CCC (NOLA April 19, 2025). So mid March could work but I also the Zydeco Marathon is in March in Lafayette. Gets difficult to fit in a race that wont compete with other races in the spring, before the weather gets to warm.

Not sure who puts it on. It's now May 4, 2025

You know, I didn't consider it when I was signing up for the Louisiana Half but I bet the lakes are gonna look like dog shite in January. That'll be a fun visual

The course is a little different because of the closure under I-10 on E Lakeshore Dr. Ive run around the lakes recently and they look much better than they did a few months ago. I'm guessing E. Lakeshore Drive wont reopen until the I-10 project is completed and who TF knows when that will be.

if i wasn't so cheap, i'd bail on this half on sunday. 66 at 7 am 93% humidity.
was hoping to do under 2 hours. will be lucky to beat my PR under 215.

The one time I ran it there was a 10-15 mph headwind the entire race and warm for December. Haven’t run it again because of the potential for those conditions again.

10 miles @ 8:45 on Tuesday
9 miles @ 8:15 on Thursday
6 miles @ 9:15 this Morning
Gonna do 20 tomorrow and 5.5 on Sunday to round out my week to 50 miles in total.
Not gonna lie, I do not recommend doing this many miles the week after a Marathon if you have any wits about you
