It’s well organized, esp for a place the size of Lafayette. It’s a double loop course now, but wasn’t up until a few years ago. Weather is a total crap shoot—last year it was 30 at race start, the year before was closer to 70. The only negative (aside from potential heat) is it’s always the day after we “spring forward”. Otherwise, solid race!

Ran a local 5K this AM. Got there early and did an easy 3 mile warm up at HR 140. This was their first year for the event. Some poor guy lost his wife to cancer and they were having the race to honor her and raise money for the school. He spoke to the crowd. If you weren’t tearing up after listening to him, they had a 9 yr old angel sing the national anthem. Kid was unreal.

So I’m totally pumped at this point.

Typical race start cluster. We are running the neighborhood I run every week. By mile two, there aren’t many people in front of me anymore. My Garmin says I put in a 7:06, 7:30, and a 7:10. Chip time says sub 22 min with a sub 7 min pace. Not sure who to believe on that one.

Normally, this would be good enough to win my age group 40-49. Must have been old man freak day as I only managed a top 8 in my group.

New PR for me and a testament to the slow running program and the Knees Over Toes strength training. Sold on both for sure.

I'm not nearly the runner most that post in this thread are and fitness foundation is CrossFit programming, but won a 5K in my age group 2 Sundays ago with a time of 25:27.

It was a combined wine run & turkey trot at a vineyard in a hilly part of the state that my gf signed us up for. The winning time was in the 17 minute area and there were some competitive runners there, but will prob be first and last time winning a 5K that had that amount of entries.

I was pretty hungover between LSU beating Bama the night before in combination with the Stros winning the WS and celebrating after. With that said, I do not plan on signing up for a Sunday race the rest of football season.

What’s everyone warmup routines - specifically ones that help avoid shin splints.

Been running 4 days a week with no issues for months. Ran a 5k early November and every run since my shins have been killing me. I get shin pain and then usually my right foot gets numb. Idk what’s going on but I showed up late to the 5k and didn’t get much of a warmup so I’m thinking that didn’t help things.

Not a warm up per se but I've been doing weighted tibia raises in the gym. It seems to have been working. No shin splint issues whatsoever. Been feeling a lot of lower calf pain lately with the heavy mileage and need to figure something out, however.

Pretty pumped boys! Clocked a 5K PR of 18:57 in rather hot conditions this am at the local Turkey Trot. Feeling pretty good, in shape. Starting Marathon cycle soon. Looking like Eugene at the end of April will be the goal race.

Congrats on the PR! Nice run.

Ran my local turkey trot 5K in 20:41 this morning. Not my best but I can feel my fitness improving after a year of nagging injuries.

When I see posts like this, I feel like we need an age qualifier in there.

I PR’d a 5K last weekend at 21:30 and age 48.

You’re currently the dude that I’m aiming to be. Hope I can get there.

For reference, there were over 300 in the 10K today and another 670 in the 5K.

Appreciate that man. Just stick with the smart training and stay consistent. You’ll be able to hit all the goals!

PR'd the NOAC Turkey Day 5 mile race right around 35:00. Think I probably went about 80% as I'm tapering and wanted to take it somewhat easy. Running the RnR San Antonio marathon next Sunday. Had a credit from the canceled RnR NOLA marathon last year so picked this one. Anyone else here running it? Weather's looking fairly warm, unfortunately, but looking forward to it regardless. Ran my first marathon in Birmingham earlier this year with a 3:51 time. Shooting for 3:30 this go round.

Really nice to see you hitting your stride, Roots!

I've been inactive for a year due to a hip injury and several major life changes. I'm giving it a go tomorrow morning to try and get back on track.

Gotten some motivation reading y'alls times haha. Recently ran a 55 minute 10K and was feeling it by the end! Shooting for a 2:00 hour half at St. Jude this weekend, but expecting a 2:05 or so depending on the weather.

Week 2: 36 miles
Week 3: 40 miles
Week 4: 45 miles
Week 5: 50 miles

After gonna keep building up but peppering in workouts to try and get in shape for an April marathon debut

I just don't see how I'm gonna have time to get over 40 miles in a week. I've been averaging about 30 miles per week with a VO2 max session in there.

I have been stuck around the 30-40 mile range before, finally broke through this year and I have been able to stay in the 60-70 mile range for a few months now. I have went 30:25 for a 5 mile and 17:06 for a 3 mile, both running by myself on the road. I just recently went from 1 workout a week to 2 so that has been difficult to adjust my schedule to but I think I have been able to settle in the 60-65 mile range. I think I will be able to go under 17 for a 5k within a month and I hope to get my mile time somewhere around 4:30.
