You cats that just come with a predetermined pace, what are you using? How do you know what paces you are supposed to run? How do you know when you are supposed to run faster when you're in good enough shape to run that specific pace? I ask because the heartbeat guys seem to have all this figured out. What are you using to determine your pace?
Secondary question. When running tempo, am I supposed to be only counting the tempo miles, or do I just say the whole run is at tempo to impress my friends?
Third question, how much faster have you all gotten when transitioning to zero drop? Is it like running way faster? Why zero drop? Super fast times?
Heart rate dudes seem to know what's up so how much faster can I go with hear rate training? I mean, I'm in like 2:2X:XX marathon shape so if I run every run slower, how do I get faster?
Just a relative newb here; running less than 4 years seriously.

I’m following the plan Walter White sent me. I was supposed to run at 9:54. Got as close as I could.
I don’t understand the rest of your post.

They say slow is smooth and smooth is fast.

Think I’m gonna switch gears and try to run a fast half ( <1:21:00). To hell with this full stuff (I’ll still run them though)

Think it’s just a general slamming of running gimmicks and things traditionally blamed when goal paces aren’t hit.
I sort of agree. I’m unsure the benefit of going to 0 drop or ultra minimal. I also tried heart rate training, but after a couple months realized my low heart rate pace is basically what my easy pace should have been all along. Don’t have an issue with anyone who wants to try either/or though.

It's someone that's slowly realizing that people don't really want to be good, they just want to be relevant while being lousy at the sport. We talk about running fast, but rarely do anything to help with it.
So many side quests...

Took it easy on my hill run tonight after intervals last night. 5.5 miles at a 9:30 pace and average HR of 165. 600’ of climb tonight. Beers and Mexican food at the end though. Worth it.

I actually have gotten faster since switching. Is that bad? Should I switch back?

I got in 5 this morning at what my Garmin considers a nice aerobic pace.

I had this exact thought about myself during a run last week. I always convince myself that I'm pushing myself hard enough. But then I finish running and I feel like I barely ran. I tell myself, "don't overdo it, you will run again tomorrow" and then I am frustrated when I run the same terrible pace.
Since that talk with myself, I have shaved over a minute and a half off of my mile pace and 3 minutes off of my two mile pace. Of course I'm tired after the run but I certainly know I was leaving WAY too much in the tank during my runs.

First run post marathon today. Legs felt ok, run wasn't terrible.
Original plan was to take the entire week off, but I've been beyond frustrated with work and just wanted to get out and run.

Some inspiration from this year’s Olympic bronze medalist

She had another one yesterday about how hard it gets leading into tapering that I felt in my soul.
This week has been so tough mentally for my runs. Every one has been a challenge. I’ve really taken for granted how important it’s been for me to have my team support and not having them this week while I’m away and in my biggest mileage week has been rough. I’m nearly through it though and damn proud. Just a short little 20 miler Sunday

10 miles this AM. Dusted the group this AM which is unusual for me. Start to finish never saw anyone else after about mile 3.
8:45/mile pace. Average HR 165. Only 300’ of gain today. My best 15K pace is 8:15 on a much harder course. 70 degrees when I started. 59 degrees when I ended. Wind blew hard in my face the whole way.

Getting back home finally today. Few more easy runs before getting back into workouts. Body feels recovered though pretty much
