CJ still finished 10th, not bad at all
His post race interview was entertaining. Said he considers himself the best downhill runner in the world so that was his plan

At what pace? I am doing my mile repeats at pretty close to my current 5k pace and about 5-10 seconds/mile off my goal pace.
I have been pretty much running without a plan, other than run 6 days a week and make two of them hard days.

3.5 miles in my new Xero Prio shoes. 8:15/mile and average HR 165. Prio’s will take getting used to. Easier to run in than the Xero sandals.

Got home yesterday and had time to collect all my thoughts on race day. I really want to put more blame on the weather, but I trained in that crap all summer and should have been better prepared. Mistakes I've documented as of now:
1. Spent too much time on my feet Saturday. We did the architecture tour in the morning and then spent most of the day at the museum and sightseeing. We didn't go back to the room until about 7 and I knew I messed up.
2. I opted not to bring my own hydration. After mile 14 I was grabbing two or three Gatorade's per aid station and still wasn't enough.
3. I thought 6 gels was enough and opted not to bring the chews. When in doubt, bring more. I was grabbing everything I could on the course; bananas, gummies, popsicle, etc.

I have some soreness in my left hip. It is pronounced when I raise my leg forwards. It was noticeable when I biked this morning, but I was able to pedal through the discomfort. I do not notice it when I walk, only when I raise my leg forward to stretch, step up, etc. Any ideas?
What hydration were you going to bring?
What gels were you going to bring and how many calories in each of them?

I know I’m in much better shape than my Sunday time would indicate, just wasn’t my day and bonked hard.
Ah well. Think I’m going to try and find a half in the next couple months and then hopefully Boston in April.

Had been using Gatorade Endurance formula (same as the race provided), but I guess was using in a larger quantity. I had a 16 oz bottle that I planned to fill and carry to use as needed. I should have been double fisting Gatorade at aid stations starting at mile 3 vs the 1/2 of a single cup I was getting. For my next block I may look into using Skratch formula during runs as well as before.
Gels used were Honey Stinger Strawberry Kiwi, so 24g Carbs, 32MG caffeine. I used all 6 every 4-6 miles. First one went down at about mile 5, then I started using them every 4. The last one I took early as I started to bonk at mile 23.

I've never eaten or drank before on a run. I guess I need to start working on that and figure out when I want to eat on long runs.

Pretty sure my heart would explode. Quit caffeine a long time ago. Even a little bit makes me jittery.

I struggled on my tempo this morning. Felt heavy and my pace was a little slower than last week. I think my hard Monday is still weighing on me.

Yay! Interval time.
1.5 mile warm up at 9:30/mile.
4 x 400m. Best interval at 1:30.
1.5 mile cool down at 8:45/mile.
Getting ready for Mercedes. 17 weeks away.

Good morning, friends.
I skipped my tempo run yesterday. My hip was bothering me and I didn't want to risk it. I probably could've toughed it out, but oh well. That bell has been rung.
I also moved my ten-miler from Saturday to this morning as rain is expected on Saturday morning in Knoxville. I had a good run this morning - 10 mi at 9:52/mi pace. It is my longest run since the half marathon I ran in April (with DownSouthJukin a/k/a Stone Cold Steve Jukin). Despite the ten-miler, my hip feels much better. I think the rest day helped.
If it doesn't rain Saturday morning, I plan to do an easy 5 at 9:54/mi pace before watching the Rebs and the Vols. I am really looking forward to running Saturday morning and experiencing the hills of East Tennessee, so fingers crossed the rain comes early on Friday night or passes through quickly on Saturday morning.
I also bought some Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 38s. Academy had them on sale for $90 and I couldn't resist. I did not run in them yet, other than jogging around the store, because I didn't think a ten-miler was appropriate to break them in. I plan to run in them on Saturday (weather permitting) and all my other runs going forward.
