This appears to be a newer race. Have you ran it in the past? Well organized? Tell me more.

No, I haven't. Can't really comment, but I'm pretty easy to please. No pacers I noticed. Unlimited Abita beer at the finish I also happened to notice.

Are there any flat areas to run there? Maybe around Lakeshore Dr/ Samford U?

Do you run any halfs/fulls in Birmingham?

Lakeshore is really flat. 2.5 mile trail from Target to the end.

Jemison is my main squeeze. It’s mostly flat but I have been running a 4 mile loop from Jemison to Overbrook to Montevallo Road down to MB Village. A little more hilly there. If I want to really challenge myself, I’ll run from Jemison to the zoo and around to the Botanical Gardens.

Near my house in Vestavia, there are no flat runs. My street is .9 miles with a few smaller hills that I’ve grown used to but once I venture out to say the high school, shite gets real steep real quick.

I’ve run the Mercedes and BHM 26.2 halfs but no fulls yet. Mercedes was fun and more of a big event. BHM was small but a better route. Maybe it was because I had trained better, but I enjoyed the BHM immensely. The hills weren’t so bad after training on them.

I've run the Mercedes. The hills can get tough on you, but at least it ends very flat.
I haven't run the BHM, but I thought it was generally the same type route of flat downtown to rolling hills around 5 Points.

5 miles in Tyler today. Nice little trail in the middle of town.

Fall is creeeeeeeping up. Slowly but surely. Still swamp arse out there but sweating is actually cooling me off.

I'm going to try and squeeze in a quick 5 this evening before my kids pizza party thing.

Although 70 DLs and 150 wall balls yesterday might have a say in how "quick" the miles will be.

And I'm seeing lows in the 50s next week...they better not be toying with me.

It's my easy week from now on, so I dont mind shuffling run days too much. My 6 miler today will happen in the morning. Small rain shower turned outside into a sauna and I dont feel like messing with that right now.

Got 5 in this afternoon. Goal was below threshold and near HMGP (9:10). Hit 9:08 @ 155 bpm avg. Humid as hell but no direct sunlight; makes a huge difference for me.

I also got in a really good 5 this afternoon. Even though temp said 97, humidity was low, so it didn’t feel like hell.

5 miles with average pace of 8:04. Really consistent. Fastest mile was 7:56 and slowest was 8:16. Felt nice.

Might actually get a proper long run in this weekend.

Went ahead and knocked out my long run this am. Easy/slow 8 miles @ 10:05. Legs were kinda heavy the first 3 miles after 5 yesterday evening. Got good and loosened up around mile 6.

Done with my miles for the week, so will most likely not do any more running until Monday. I’ll do gym stuff tomorrow and rest Sunday. On vacation next week with no plans and cooler weather supposedly, so should be able to get some good training in.

Took to a track for some speed work yesterday evening. First time doing true speed work in over 10 years. My idea of speed work over that time was running a fast 5K.

Ran (6) 800m, with 2 min rest between each. Fastest time was 3:07. Slowest was 3:17. Enjoyed the first 400m of the first rep. Hated the entire rest of the session.

2 miles this morning. Wanted 4 but was feeling tight and my heart was racing hard. 13 miles tomorrow so I stopped at 2.

It’s definitely a love/hate type of thing. It’s hurt so much.

But the gains you see from regular speed work are so massive.

I'll grow to enjoy them more. When set for interval training, my watch does not tell you your splits until the activity is over. A bit strange, but makes it easier since you have times to dwell on.

Tomorrow ends my two-week break. The foot is feeling better, and it should be cooling off finally. I just got REALLY sick of running in that shite. I think I'll start w a slow 10k and then a swim.
