5 miles of midday work today at Highland Road Park. Absurd 110 feels like temp. No end in sight per Pat Shingleton just now on the news.

Set out to run easy at easy VDOT pace (9:45-10:00) and put some easy miles on my Altras, as these are my first zero drop.

That's a nice little getup. Now you can start doing Xterra off-road tris.

Hard leg workout this morning after yesterday's run.

20 lunges w/60lbs barbell into upright row
20 lunges back into squats with shoulder press.

20 broad jumps down the court, turnaround 20 back.

Looking to see what they have around here. Found one very close, but seems to be in July .

I'm truly enjoying just focusing on running right now. Still just as tough physically, but so much less demanding of your time (and money). But I need to find a way to start getting meaningful swims and bikes in. No way I can go from pure running to where I'd like to be on the bike and swim in the 2.5 months between my marathon and 70.3. Plan has been to get something in on Monday and workout on Tuesday. But by those are rest days after a long run on Sunday. So I usually end up skipping at least one of the "cross training" days.

Good training down for the day. Met my buddy at the gym this am for a cross fit workout and then hit the track for 16 x 100m sprints/jog with 800m warm up/cool down.

Got in 6 @ 8:20 pace this morning. A little faster than what I was shooting for... will try to slow it to 8:40 or so tomorrow. Trying to keep the legs good for 19 on Saturday.

I put in 10k this AM at 8:30. Fastest 10K I've ran with my new running motion. Trying to keep y cross-over gait at a minimum.

Someone had put a link to a podcast several pages back about the importance of putting speed work into your marathon training. I tried to find it but was unable to. Anyone have that link, or links to any other usefull pod cast for runners? TIA.

I wasn’t the one that suggested it, but I did listen to it and enjoyed it

LINK

I’ve also listened to a few other episodes on that podcast now as I commute, I like it quite a bit

Other news, I had a pretty rough 8 miles this morning. Probably slowest in weeks. 85 feels like and 72 dew point

Second 5k "test" of my training this morning (3 weeks since last test). Knocked 11 seconds per mile off and jumped up one on my VDot score. Still hoping the first cool front reveals a few extra gears though. Just not feeling great any time I run faster than an easy pace.

Due to work stuff I may have to bump my target race up to the Northshore Half, which is the week before my current target of the Jazz Half. I would actually prefer this race I believe as I will get to see some of the Tammany Trace & I feel like getting in on race morning for packet pick up/parking etc may be easier. Plus this will be further away from my wife's due date of 11/5. No big deal.

Made an appointment to have DEXA scan and VO2 testing done next week, so anxious to see how that goes.

Wait... What?!

I live on the NS and never heard of such a race. Will be signing up shortly.

This appears to be a newer race. Have you ran it in the past? Well organized? Tell me more.
