I’m probably going to start out at or slower than pace even down the hill. If there is a lead group slower but within 5 seconds or so off pace, I may go with them. I’ll make adjustments to run slower but not faster to run with a group for sure.

Final real “workout” today. 3 up 10 tempo 3 down. I suppose that was a decent race simulation as trashed as my legs are. We’ll taper next week to the 60s. Race week will be dialing in my pace and an easy run Tuesday and Wednesday. Thursday off. 5 mile shake out the morning before and then brace myself for the soul crushing boredom of the marathon on Saturday.

Thanks for the update, Burt. Any info you or anyone can share leading up to the race will help. Pretty much decided I'm gonna do my first 26.2 at the La. in January. Needless to say I'm nervous as shite and gonna be a sponge till then.

To be real right now, motivation is going in the wrong direction. The runs have been fine but between the dark and the cold and the lack of races it's been a struggle to get out after work or on the weekends. Sunset is at 4:45PM. Yesterday it was in the 40s after work. Last Saturday it might have hit 40° all day. I just couldn't do it. I know winter is coming and I'll do some miles just like I did last winter but I think COVID19 and the lack of in-person engagements just took the wind out of the motivation sails.

Today starts a week plus of 60s and sunny. I'm going to take advantage of the ideal weather conditions for as long as it lasts. I have a race on the calendar, the Mountain Goat in Syracuse, with a goal of a sub-80 minute time. The race is in May so it gives me plenty of time to get faster.

Tonight was 7 miles @ 8:37 pace and almost 400' elevation gain. Cruising, not pushing.

I wish I had done more tempo work. I did a lot of speed. But I really didn’t do much tempo. Or many runs at exactly race pace. I was doing that in part to prevent injury but I know it would have helped a lot in the later stages of the race.

shite run today. I was supposed to do 3-5 miles at tempo pace with warm up and cool down. I twisted my ankle in tempo mile 1 and had to limp back to the house at a slow jog.

I’m debating whether I try to redo the run tonight, tomorrow, or not at all.

Trots are the worst.

Had a solid 6 miles this morning. About 6:35 pace and felt smooth.

Fighting some tendonitis in my right foot. Have been feeling it since a couple days after my virtual. Pain comes and goes throughout the day but not risking something worse by trying it out.

Decided to bike some yesterday and even that put some strain on it so I'm not sure how much I can push it. This sucks.

If you signed up for WRM you should have received an email to update your registration with estimated finish time.

Weather for this race (WRM) has traditionally been a coin flip (hot/cold) If it’s anything close to what we’ve seen this week, I’m dropping. I have better shite to do (and have trained too hard) than fart out a 3 hour marathon in temps I’ve de-acclimated from a month ago. Safety race would be the “Run for the Ranch” in December.

It’ll change a few times.

Even this week the temps at start time haven’t been “terrible” at 50.

Nah not terrible, and it’s not much of an issue if it stays in the low 50s, but it heats up really quick.

WU
3x
400 fast
800 med
1200 easy
CD

I need to start putting in some miles at tempo. I'm suppose to do a 70.3 in 3 weeks.

New PR in the Vulcan 10K this morning: 8:19/mile for a 53:01 finish. fricking IT Band is preventing my life goal of sub-8 min miles in the 10K. It doesn’t really hurt, but gets achey and stiff about mile four and really slows me down.

Congrats. Keep foam rolling it. I’ve never had bad IT band issues when being consistent with that. You can reach that goal.

Did a 12 mile tempo with mile 3&4 hills. I was slow and legs were dead. I need to be doing more 10+ mile runs. I’m going to be hurting in 2 weeks.

Finally got a chance to run a race today. It was Fundraiser for a local school. I ran the 10K 44:30. Other than it being a little warm keeping me from pushing it like I wanted to I was pleased.

Kind of a disappointing 5k today. My overall pace has only decreased about 5 seconds per mile since April. A very slow middle mile was my downfall.

Although I haven’t been doing any fast speed work and have been focusing more on longer intervals, I hoped that it would convert to a faster 5k.
