How are you feeling today?
I hear the pain gets better after running a second marathon.

Definitely feeling it in my hips and thighs. Stairs are rough. But honestly it isn’t the worst. Once I get moving it’s not too bad. I’m taking today off and doing some yoga but think I’ll do a short jog tomorrow.

Great run, as mentioned on Strava! You nailed the training. Can you give some insight into in race fueling/hydration? Did you stop at all? I saw you had a 10:00 mile in there.

jkylejohnson,
Nice man. It's nice to see us cranking up the races and getting back out there.

Thanks, man! I appreciate the kind words. I love this community and it helps me a lot so I’m always happy to give some back.
Roots, I started at 635a. morning of, I woke up around 5 and immediately ate a banana to get the stomach working. I learned from our comrade kballa the importance of making sure to get everything out pre race. I waited about 30 minutes and went for a half mile jog then came back and took care of business and then ate a little mandarin. That’s pretty much been my consistent pre-long run meal so I didn’t want to change it up. I drank a glass of water right when I woke up and really only a sip or two more before the race.
During the race, I brought energy chews (honey stinger, which again I trained with) and some water. I ate something every 5 miles. And drank about 12 ounces of water every 7-8. I definitely wish I drank more because the leg cramping in mile 24 undoubtedly came from that. The one problem with the virtual race is hydration.
At mile 18ish is where I got back to my apartment so my fiancé gave me another banana (super clutch) and a few more energy chews. That’s where my slow mile came in, a purposeful 3 or so minute walk and took off my long shirt. That was my only in race stop. In total during the race, I drank about 50oz water, ate a banana and 4 chews.

50 oz of water...that is good to know !
Part of me hiring a coach was trusting he knows 1,000,000 times more than me.
I'm 2 weeks & 5 days out from White River Marathon (WRM) and just had my weekly talk and got my workout....This week is 43 miles with Wednesday speed workout & 14 Saturday. I was expecting much less.
I asked him about taper and he reminded me his plan for me deals with cumulative fatigue and he has faith in my ability to handle the miles. He said he would not give me something I could not take.
I have no pain, tweaks, and actually feel really fresh. He said my feedback factored into his programming for the week.
My mind still has me in Hal Higdon mode which would be 19 miles (3,5,3,8) this week but I'm committed to making bigger progress.

Trust him! I did about 40 my third to last week including a 14 mile long Saturday run. About 30 two weeks before. You’re good.

What are your runs this week?
Posted on 11/2/20 at 10:34 pm to hogbody
Hogbody,
T:7 @ 155 BPM
W: 3×1 @ 8:10-8:20 with 200m jog, 2 mile warm up & 1 cool down ..this is lactate threshold based on my 9/14/20 fitness test & current training
T: 7 @ 155 bpm
S:14 with 13-14 under 8:50
S: 6 mile recovery
He asked what I though and I said sounds easy & he was like boom, you can do this. He educates me on balance of training. I just didn't think this was where I would be this close to the race...I think he is also trying to mentally sharpen me moving forward.

When is he gonna hit you with target race pace? What do your race weekend logistics look like? Drive up the day before?

Glad I could help somewhere.
One other thing I learned with hydration in my first marathon (last year) is that too much water leading up is very bad. I cramped like crazy around mile 16 and had to fight through it until mile 20 or so. I learned my second time around that it's about balancing water and electrolytes. For every 1L of Water I drank, I would put down a small 12 oz gatorade.
On race day, I alternated water and gatorade at aid stops. Quail is right though, virtuals and hydration is hard. I stashed frozen bottles of water along my course and carried gatorade with me.

Roots,
They are requesting we submit projected times via email in a couple days for covid-wave starts. We should know then.
We started discussing pace a little and my body is wanting to push to & settle in at 8:35 - 8:45 around 149 bpm. He said that isn't realistic for the entire race but he thinks 9:05 - 9:30 might be where we start race planning.
My Wednesday speedwork has been physically easy. He said that has no real indication of my marathon time but it does represent better fitness , running economy, and some mental gains. I was scared/embarrassed to sprint on the track/greenway but those days are gone. Its automatic now.
He did say this is an all-out "A" race & no staying in HR range. That was just training.
I'm flying into Arkansas Thursday night to chill on Friday & sleeping late Sunday and flying back. We start our family Thanksgiving vacation Tuesday so it will be walking recovery all week.
Edited to add--> We planned on me running 1:49:00 at Boise Half on 10/25 before it got canceled.

Are there 3 or 4 of us running this race?
@Burt are you going to start out faster than race pace on the downhill?
