MGCM training week 2.
hit the track for some speed work this morning. rotc kids were doing their workouts as well, so i knew it was plenty early.
Gonna try and do 3:05 or better for a BQ. not that i'll ever get to run Boston, i just want the qualifying time.

Noice. 17 mile workout. Animal. You coming up with these workouts on your own? Self training? What about the dude that trained hb that y’all mentioned earlier in the thread? Did you ever reach out to him?

Felt great out there this AM. Temps were 67. Awesome.
Did 7 miles at 9:00 pace. Good times. Lots of people out there.

Should be closer to 13 miles and I wouldn’t say I’m coming up with them, but I am using them at my disposal/discretion based on past successes and research. After firing my coach, I’m back to coaching myself.

It’s been awhile since I posted in this thread but just wanted to join back in. Been doing a lot of swim, bike, running but yesterday was a low humidity day in Houston. Got in 18 mile bike and a 6 mile run.It was marvelous.
Signed up for Houston marathon but we'll see if that happens. Only other thing on the schedule is a 5 x 5k in Jan. Run a 5k every hour for 5 hours and accumulate the time.
Off to do 4K swim.

Oh yeah, I'm signed up for Texas 70.3 and it was postponed to Nov. My buddies are doing IMFL so we decided to train together. I really doubt either of those two happen but at least we're training.
BTW, I finally acquired a Garmin Fenix 5x. That damn thing gives me too much info.
someone may need to explain it to me like I'm 5. Sign up on strava and join you guys?

Decided to really commit to being a better runner & signed up with a local coach.
No more stock internet plans & I'm confident he can push me. I do get two runs with him per month and there is a ton of form work he needs to fix for me.
Plan wise, I lost trust Boise would happen and he recommended I sign up for White River Marathon in Arkansas so he can run a full cycle for me. If Boise happens I'll run the half as a PR attempt.
I just hit 1,700 career miles which made me feel committed to the sport & still new enough to be an open book. I also finally hit 179 which is a 27 pound loss since my first half marathon.

Good news, RS. I think you'll excel. You definitely have the commitment and drive aspect, which is what many lack. Good luck dude!

Thanks for the comments Roots.
Now it comes down to getting faster and learning to train & race.
Sort of like the kid who pulled wire for 2 years , time to lean how to become an apprentice.
Just showing up won't cut it and I'm ready to see where my mix of strengths, weaknesses & effort can take me.
Our first call was to discuss "good" & "success" and he helped me understand it's me & him working on my next goal...comparing my runs to other people is 100% pointless.

Trying to do more disciplined workouts. Today I did 5x 1 Mike at 10k pace with 4 minute recoveries. It felt pretty comfortable, but my hr was high.

Yeah definitely don’t compare to the assholes on this board, that’s what got me injured overtraining

loving this low humidity.

Does anyone wear those socks that are left/right foot specific?
I wear good socks cause if I don’t I get hot spots on the bottoms of my feet but I can’t bring myself to buy left/right socks.

I have a couple pair in my rotation. I didn't seek out R/L socks when I purchased them though, as I think I grabbed a couple of different pairs during a buy 3 get 1 free deal.
I don't mind them, and they feel slightly different than uni-foot socks because of the extra padding and elastic in specific areas. But not different enough to bother me in any way. I think I use my two paris every week and they are about 2 years old at this point.
