4.33 in 36:37 today (8:27/mile). Ran the bridge and shaved a minute off my time. Three tomorrow and big 11 on Saturday!

Two morning workouts this week under the belt. Now off to the bachelor party so likely no running for the rest of the week. That’s fine by me, I’m feeling a little sore and my knee can use the rest.

holding up with all this mileage

I didn’t want to give the impression that I don’t have pain, soreness, or other issues. I do. A lot. Knowing the difference between soreness and injury is almost an art. Sore muscles aren’t always tired and vice versa.

I’m just not very vocal in my issues or training.

yeah, it’s highly unlikely I’ll be in a physical state to run. Lots of golf though

Not that there is anything wrong with that.

I always have some minor issue, whether it's my piriformis, knee, or shins. I've never had a serious injury though. All of my overuse stuff feels better when running than it does when I stand or sit in one place too long. That's how I know not to be too concerned about it.

As far as soreness goes, that definitely comes with the mileage. Once I get over 30 miles per week, I pretty much stay mildly sore until I taper. If I'm not a little sore, I'm not doing enough.

I’ve got some pain in my left hip this morning. Never has any hip issues before. I felt it near the beginning of my run last night. The bridge slopes from right to left (going west) so my left leg was lower than my right. It seems to get a little better with movement and doesn’t hurt when I’m stationary. I had an hour and a half drive this morning and that tightened it up a little.

Should I skip my 3 miler tonight and rest up?

Sure it's your hip? Is it in the joint or muscle?

I wouldn’t know how to tell the difference. Felt a weird tweak early in my run and it was stiff today after sitting for a long period of time. Feels a little better now but I don’t wanna compound anything.

If it was in the joint, it would be isolated to the ball and socket and hurt worse when you move.

If it is muscular, it could be a lot of things. The pain might feel like it is in the hip, but it might actually originate in the glutes, lower back, or underneath the glutes. I wouldn't worry much about it unless the pain gets worse during running. It's probably just a minor strain. If you can figure out which types of movements aggravate or alleviate it, that will give you more clues about what may have caused it and how to prevent future issues.

Does your weekly/monthly mileage decrease as the weather gets warm or does it stay consistent throughout the year?

I can’t diagnose you but if it’s only sore during exercise, that’s “runners knee” and I have personally successfully trained through it. If it is always sore and the pain gets significantly worse during activity, you just need to go see a doctor and reduce activity until you get a proper diagnosis.

got an mri last week and i was told i do have runner's knee from worn down cartilege. Seems to be going around these parts lately. I'm getting restless after 3 months off from running so am going to see how my knee responds going back out there. Thanks for the tips.

I try to stick with a minimum base mileage in the range of 20-30 miles per week throughout the year with two target races, one in the Spring and the other in the Fall. It doesn't always work that way, but that is generally what I aim for. The target races will determine what mileage I build up to in the Spring and Fall.

I got lazy over the winter and missed a lot of runs. I have done just enough to avoid losing all of my fitness. If things go as planned this week, I will start building for a May 5K, drop back to a base of about 30 miles for a week or two, then build for an August 5K and October Half.

Quads are destroyed after 50k this past weekend. Taking some time off this week, but got another to do in 2 weeks. One last 50k in June then I start getting ready for a 50 miler in September.

Miles stay consistent but the pace gets slower until acclimation.

I guess I should clarify. With my volume, I'll train my normal mileage with a recovery week every 3-4 weeks cutting miles by about 30%. So my miles will fluctuate, but it has nothing to do with the weather.

Three miles in 24 even (8:00 pace) on a treadmill due to the rain.

My hip feels fine. It was a little sore at first. I hope I’m not subconsciously changing my gait or something like that to cope with hip discomfort two weeks before the race

I got in a good workout this evening after the rain passed. 4 x 2K @ 6:40 with 2 mile warmup/cool down. Things appear to be shaping up nicely for my 10K on 3/14.

Some of you baws with world record mile times in Strava that don't self flag are about to get your "PRs" corrected. Strava is launching a "smart" flagging system. Bout time, huh?
