4.33 in 37:21 today (8:38/mile pace). I ran the Bay St. Louis Bridge so I wasn't completely unaccustomed to hills come raceday. 'twas windy out there and I had to battle on the back half (going west to east, you have to run up two hills pretty quickly). I felt my hamstrings burning for the first time since I started running, but I ain't no lil' punk arse bitch and just kept trudging along.
Let's hope this rain moves through because I want to run the bridge again on Wednesday.

I knew he would be quick to respond
If he's running ahead of me and strokes out, you better believe I'll turn him into a hurdle.

Took a week off with the IT Band thing. Found a stretch and exercise routine to target that specific problem. It consists of mainly hip oriented exercises like side raises, side leg lifts, clam shell leg lifts, etc, etc. Foam rolling the shite out of both legs.
Did a recovery run today. Easy paced 10 min miles. I didn't want to push it. About three miles in, the knee started bothering me again. I made it 4 miles before calling it done. I stretched for maybe two minutes and the pain disappeared. I'm not sure if that's good or bad?
Anyway, I've found a run specific massage guy here in town. Unfortunately, he's wrapped up with one of the local colleges and their track team at a big meet. I'll try to get to him or another one in the next week or so. Keeping with the stretches and exercises every day at lunch. Slowly work back to running. My 15K is in 30 days......

How are your shoes? New? Old? Which brand and model?

Brand new pair of New Balance 880’s. It may have started with the shoes now that I think about it....... Can a shoe change really cause that? I’ll try running again later this week in my old shoes and see what happens.

From my experience it can. Do you normally run in neutral or stability? IIRC, the 880 is mild stability?
My experience: I was fit into some Mizuno stability shoes, never had much an issue but thought they were too firm. Got fit again at Fleet Feet into some Brooks Adrenaline which are a max stability trainer. Things started fine but after putting maybe 15-20 miles on them I’d start to get pain in my right knee after my runs. Decided it was an IT band issue and did exercises and foam rolling...still had pain and it began happening during my runs, like 2 or 3 miles in. Always on the outside right knee and radiating down to upper calf. Really hurt going up and down stairs. So, decided to test by swapping shoes and ran in my Zoom Fly’s, no pain. Tried the Brooks again to confirm, pain. Then tried my Epic Reacts for 5 miles, no pain. Promptly returned the Brooks and have had no knee issues since.
I think my issue was that I pronate slightly on my left, but my right is neutral. The stability shoes were correcting my right too much and causing knee issues.

Just got around to reading that article. I have no comment in general other than that it's pretty anecdotal. Not so sure about trail running for rehab either. Also, it seems he's claiming that 65-75 miles was not enough and his low mileage caused it? And that's one of the reasons he got injured? Pish Posh.
Go. To. A. Specialist. if it hurts too bad to run.
From my own purely non advisable experience because everyone is different was... When I had IT problems, strengthening the butt (squats and not even weighted) was helpful as was getting on the bike.
See a fricking specialist and stop taking advise from us hacks on the internet. Nobody on here is a coach no matter how many internet articles we've read.
Could it be the shoes? Maybe.
Could it be your strength regimen? Maybe.
Could it be that you started doing running workouts before you were ready? Maybe (Also new runners, speed workouts are not part of the base process for people that have never run before.)
Could it be because you run the same route every day? Actually this is the most probable issue.
By the way I'm not saying these are your issues specifically.
See a doctor, damnit.

It's my experience, and the experience of many others I have talked to, that IT band issues are not generally resolved with massaging, stretching, or rolling. These provide the most temporary of relief. Bad form from weak hips and glutes is most often the culprit. For me, it was my cross-over gait. I worked to correct that and my IT band issues disappeared instantly.

That’s right. Doing butt stuff will help with IT issues.

Listen to this man. 329 pages and not one instance of Burt complaining about his IT. He's an aficionado of all things butt stuff.

How you holding up with all this mileage you been putting on? I had to do a double take when I saw your YTD numbers.

I will try a short run again Weds with my old kicks and see what happens. It wasn't until the other poster pointed it out, but this knee issue started with the new shoes. I hope that's all it is. I hate being out $100, but I will be ecstatic if that's all it is.

Right on AS.
BnG, holding up fine. Body is taking it well and I’m trying to be smart about how I approach the mileage while making sure I don’t overdo it.
I feel very fit.

That's good to hear man. If you stay healthy, you're going to crush your times from last year. I'll keep admiring from afar.

I am fortunate to live in an amazing place I love.

You run in any of the Gulf Coast Racing Club events? Roots and I did the bridge 8K last year. I like how low key and easy they are to participate in. You can register a half hour before an event, pay minimal money, and start at or near the front if you care to.

Nothing yet. I’ll probably run the 10K in April just to keep the training going. I’m steady trying to figure out my 11 mile route this weekend but can’t find anything working.
