Saw that. Nothing to be ashamed of obviously. Stellar effort once again.

Going to be using some of the ideas from the rain thread. Got a 5 miler tomorrow. Will be very wet. Praying to not get sick after.

Weather was bad in Bham this AM for the 5k. 70+ degrees and as close to 100% humidity as you can get without rain. Of course the rain started AFTER we finished.

It was 40 and about 20 mph wind here but we dipped into the Forrest and were all good after that. When I climbed back out it was miserable again.
Going to be a great week of running.

Looking back at my race results. It seems that running is all about very small incremental increases. I’m not making big leaps in performance, just gaining seconds on my times from race to race.

Got some movers this morning. Congratulations on the PRs! BNG and RS can't wait for the walkthrough.

Unfortunately I didn’t race today, Burt. Was my goal race pre stroke... ugggh... But I saw the results BnG and RS put up and agree; some fast ones!

5 miler this morning. Solid 36 minute finish. 7:13 pace. Pretty hefty rain throughout.
Second to last race this year. One more next week to finish up my qualifying for next year’s NYC Marathon. 5K Saturday I’m hoping to blast sub 21 for a PR.

Roots, I have NO idea how I missed that.
I went and looked at when you posted about that originally and I was traveling in the Rio Grande Valley and it was right after my race so I just wasn’t active in the thread. I noticed that you took some off but thought it was just rest and had no idea it was a stroke.
I am so sorry man. Keep us updated to your recovery.
Great job everyone else today. RS and NB murdered it.

Thanks buddy! Totally turned my life upside down as it was a total shock to the system, of course. As is usually the case, it could have been much worse. I should make a full recovery. The hardest part is being inactive and letting it heal.

Yeah that was my mistake. Meant to say BnG.

Houston Half was a great learning experience...
I didn't get shook with things out of my control like corral management mistakes / pacers missing / poor organization.
10 seconds before start the 1:55 pacers, which was my goal, showed up..took us on a wrong turn (somehow ) so we sprinted mile two ..I just laughed , realized I've trained hard all summer and said screw it , put my head down and ran.
In their defense the course was long and threw off their pace bands vs the mile markers & their garmin. They would apologize, run 25 seconds per lap too fast , rinse&repeat the entire time.
Finished faster than I thought @ 1:50:17 and had to run hard and steady from mile 8 on. First time I really had a rhythm as a runner and that was very enjoyable. I knew it was fast and doubted myself many times but decided to push harder to try and break myself. I didnt break , built some confidence, and have some new numbers to train from.
Most important thing I learned is it comes down to training and preperation....pacers, race organizers & garmin alerts dont control anything.

Imma need a week.

That's a fun race though right? I can't imagine a better way to see that city. I miss the hell out of that town, it used to be my hood.

That sucks it wasn’t better organized. The pacers always seemed unorganized the last two years. There was no spacing in the corral. I stood next to the 1:45 pacer and the 1:55 was directly behind me last year.
Great run and great time! The Aramco Half and Chevron full are much better organized.

Course support was good, especially with the bad weather. The course has you go around the monuments and up to right below Capitol Hill, Georgetown, up towards the Zoo, and start and finish at Arlington National Cemetery (not in that order). There were 30k+ runners, and the corral assignments are based in your perceived (but not verified) finish time. The other neat part is there is no prize money for the winners. This was the first year they also had a 50k.
The race did start out in the low 60s and ended sunny and 70s.

Kballa6,
The pacers are volunteers so I would never put any criticism on them, I walked away knowing my success will depend solely on me. They were very nice guys and tried to accommodate everyone. One would think not getting lost with police pointing the correct way would be a prerequisite though haha !
I do appreciate the advice on the Allen Parkway & underpasses. I was able to do some larger hill repeats in Nashville to mentally prepare for it on tired legs..I saw faster and fitter people break down at the end and have to walk them.

Completed my 4th half-marathon this past weekend. I'm really thinking about continuing training and just going for a full marathon in a few months.
How much of a pain in the arse is a full compared to a half?
Somebody please talk me off the ledge

Half is a very fine and respectable distance. Do not do crazy unless you are absolutely sure.
If you train really well and are a strong runner then you may enjoy a marathon. Pick one that is flat and low-to-no chance of heat. And just know you may feel things you're body has never experienced before.
