Yep, insane accomplishment.

On a different but related note, the new Nikes look wild. Rumor is they are aiming for a Olympics 2020 release date. ZoomX foam + two air pods in the forefoot (underneath balls of your feet). Nike just putting all the tech they’ve ever developed together into one shoe lol.

I feel like I'm caught in the middle with my Hal Higdon long runs-->

My neighbor and I did 12 at 9:17 when the plan called for 9:50-11:15 ...we finished strong and it was very enjoyable..heart rate was low & steady and we talked the entire time.

I worry that I am running them too fast or is it that my goal pace and plan are too conservative?

Your long run can be a minute and a half to 3mins slower than your 5k. You’re fine. If you feel better, run quicker. If your form disintegrates during the run, it was too fast. Good job, looks like your about ready to make the next leap soon use today’s run as a reminder and confidence booster.

Also, you know you can text me anytime you have a question. Cheers!

BRM,

Thanks and that lines up with my:

7:55 5K
8:20 10K

For once, my form felt good and stronger as we picked up the pace at the end. I think we will reasonably push it on good days and stay within the "guidelines" on not good days. Basically let our body guide us.

I have decided to go out with the 1:55 pace group at the Houston Half on the 27th and fight like hell to make it happen.

Thanks for the offer for texts also, I sincerely appreciate the support.

Good workout this morning, took advantage of the 40 degree weather with little above 10k pace 5.5 tempo. It was quick, man. Two weeks out from my next 5k then nothing until the marathon in November.

First run of the day was a frosty 30 degree 9 miler. This weather rocks!

Emphatically agree with this statement. I think my run today (12 miles) was the longest I have until the 27th. I didn't think I was doing well on my time until I was over halfway through, then I saw I was running 40 sec/mi faster than my goal pace. It really helps that the mornings have been in the high 40s/low 50s for a while now.

I'm really looking forward to this taper stretch.

Charity 5k this morning. 4th OA.

Small field for sure but it was fun to actually sprint a little. This is the first 5k I’ve ever run without a kid or family so I was able to open up a bit more.

Might have possibly been able to get a top 3 but 3rd place was about 30-40 seconds ahead and we were both cruising at 6:35 pace and there wasn’t enough time to to catch him. Probably shouldn’t have taken mile 2 so slowly.

First sub 22:00, and I’m fat so I can’t complain. 50 degrees was a perfect temp for the race.

Brigid Kosgei just smashed the world record in Chicago. 2:14:02. Previously 2:15:20 and nobody had really gotten anywhere close to that.

That’s nuts. Sub 2 and Radcliffe’s record smoked in the same weekend

Casual run today on the Higdon 5k plan. First ever 6 miles straight. Cool light rain here in Bham today made this easy. Did the 6 miles in right at an hour.

I'm freaking out today.

Yesterday I woke up with ankle pain, and it has continued into today. I don't remember rolling my ankle or doing anything that would have resulted in an ankle sprain, but good old internet searches indicate this could be peroneal tendonitis. The pain is only on the outside part of my foot, and I can feel some lower calf tightness as well.

My marathon is less than two weeks away, so I'm hoping some RICE, Advil, and time will hear this up quick. Really bummed about this.

Survived 23 yesterday, but a little slower than I wanted. Something felt off through the first half of the run. Legs felt heavy and couldn't shake whatever it was. FInally got it out of me around mile 12, focused on picking up the pace and finished the last 7 strong.

Learned a lot in regards to my fueling strategy and Lube strategy. Feeling a little sore today but nothing crazy.

I still have yet to use my Fenix to monitor intervals. I know there is an easy way to track laps and monitor pace, but I'm too lazy to figure it out.

I fricked myself over pretty good by not running any my long runs quicker. Most were roughly 1:15 to 1:45 slower than my goal race pace. Doesn't give me a whole lot of confidence going into my race in 1.5 weeks. Thinking about getting in some 2 mile repeats this week at goal race pace to boost my confidence.

Fast finish long run is a staple for longer distance race training. I live by them. I also like to split my long run into half’s sometimes and sometimes I just get bored so I kick it up because I’m tired of being in my feet.

Thanks, Burtemis. That was my first major marathon. So...many...people. There's no way you can overestimate the number of people on the course - running and spectating. Makes for a great race and atmosphere. Also, makes the race strategy a little harder. I'd bet I ran an extra half mile total just weaving in and out of people along the way. But I really had fun out there and was able to hit a time I was happy with.

To anybody who may not have run Chicago before and might be interested, I'd highly recommend. The race directors and volunteers do it all really well. It's amazing how many details they get right to make it a great experience. And the course is awesome - mostly right in the heart of the city.

Burt, I know you're set up to have a killer WRM next month. Good luck to everybody on their upcoming races
