How long do running shoes typically last for you guys?

My wife bought me two pair of Altra (one for speed work and tempo run; the other for everyday running) two Augusts ago. I got an amazing 1500 miles out of each pair. I just got a new pair of Altra last month.

I think for most people, 400-800 miles is usually the life span. I think most people change to a new pair too early, however. If you run with good form, you can probably get 800 miles out of a good pair of shoes, IMO.

This morning I bought a Timex Ironman One GPS+ on Ebay that will do everything I need for $35.

I started with that one years ago, and it served me well. I moved up to the Garmin Forerunner about 5 years ago, then I got a Garmin Vivoactive in 2016. I miss some of the features the forerunner had, but the Vivoactive is a much better lifestyle watch that also meets most of my running needs.

I haven't raced in over a year. I injured my SI joints last August, and life kept me from any consistent training until this Spring. So, I have been pretty determined.

Honestly, the running has been pretty easy to keep up with since I started running early in the morning. The weight training is a little more difficult to get done in the evenings after a day of work and family stuff.

Had a PR run for myself this morning.

4 miles 7:30 pace overall

Mile 1 - 7:12
Mile 2 - 7:10

4 sets of intervals for miles 3 and 4.

I have been running with a local speed demon and told him to really start pushing me. Its amazing what you can accomplish getting out of the comfort zone.

If it’s not on Strava, it didn’t happen.

About to head to South Texas for a 15 miler tomorrow. Should be +1200 feet of climb and a lot of rocks. Aiming to get it under 3 hours, but we’ll see.

Shaved 1:22 off my 10K PR and getting closer to 49. I dont feel I went out too fast, I just didnt have enough fitness to hold the pace...That will be fixed with the Golden Rule advice from the Arkansas crew --> run more miles. Better nutrition & losing bodyfat will naturally help me improve all-around and I've committed to that.

Related to improving, with the new people here and on Strava --->ask solid questions and you get solid answers here. There are some very fast & accomplished runners who treat all runners equal as long as you grind and put in the work.

3 miles was brutal today. Ran in my neighborhood and it’s nearly 400 ft elevation change with the last mile being over half straight up hill. Times were bad, but hope the hill work pays off somehow.

My arse is kicked. 1700 feet of climbing and my shoes are toast from kicking rocks. That sucked.

Nice one, sounds miserable but Im sure it was gratifying at the end.

My neighbor/running partner collapsed and passed out at mile 11 of a local HM this morning. He was unconscious for about an hour. Awake but not very alert at hospital right now. Active guy, healthy lifestyle and the mileage definitely wasnt an issue.

Scary situation and the cardiologist said he can go ahead and hang up any future hardcore running. Currently admitting for tests to check for damage.

Wow. Was he the runner that was being helped by EMS on Gilbert this morning?

I saw it and thought maybe someone got hit by a car.

Man there were some moments where my heart felt like it was going to leap out of my chest today, but that’s awful. I’m always worried when there’s a bit of pain there whether I need to listen to that or pretend it’s just my lungs.

Sincere prayers for him.

Yes it is! I did a 25k. Wish I had figured that out. After looking him up on Strava I was sad because i had grown out a pretty good mustache for the race and that guy put me to shame.

We cheered them off as they left at 7 PM last night. They did my race 4x. He can regale how brutal that course is.

Good Sunday morning! It must be Sunday because Strava and Garmin are all fricked up like most Sundays.

Was supposed to get 3 hours in today but did 240 (22) something instead. Three would have been excessive in my opinion this morning. Like I stated earlier, when it comes time to do 330 according to my plan, I’ll have ran a marathon and then some so I feel something has to be off.

Anyhow good races y’all! 3N finished a run without complaining so that’s huge IMO. (Just twisting your tit) Sorry to hear about baw with the heart problem but am so glad to hear he’ll pull through. That stuff is really scary.

Looks like relief is on the horizon so let’s hit this first part of the week even harder. Make the heat your bitch so when it gets cool, it’ll feel twice as nice.
