Weather has been great in the mornings and evenings. I was pumped for my easy paces to start dropping but have been fighting hip flexor pain and then out of nowhere hit with runners knee yesterday. Really sucks. I’d probably benefit from a running coach, gonna take a couple days off in the meantime.

Still very warm during the day. Looking forward to getting back to running on my lunch break. And I'm also getting tired of explaining to my boss that the white powder on my shirt and fingers is actually just electrolyte mix.

Can you not pour stuff into a cup without spilling it?

Nothing I hate worse than injuries messing up fall running, after so many months of enduring the heat. Hope you heal quickly.

Wait... electrolyte mix goes in a cup?

I assumed it did. What is it?

Not sure what the deal is. I guess just overuse catching up to me. Since April I’ve had no injuries, last two weeks my hip flexor keeps getting tight by mile 4 of my runs. Working on strengthening my glutes bc I’m sure that’s the root cause since I have a desk job. Also trying to figure out how to activate glutes while running but can’t quite get the feeling down. Foam rolling like twice a day too; I have 0 patience lol.

Had a killer track interval session this morning
1600m / 400 recovery / 1200m / 400 recovery / 1000m
Averaged 7:xx on the run portions. It was a tough start but once I set in it felt awesome.

I’m torn about getting a GPS watch. I currently run with a basic Timex Ironman and it tracks my time just fine. How many of y’all have seen beneficial gains or time decreases due to a GPS watch? At this time, I don’t run anything but at the only pace I really know. Right now it’s just about building up the miles. I don’t run tempo runs, intervals, fartleks, sprints, etc. I may soon though if I’m not happy with my half marathon times aren’t acceptable (I do not see why they wouldn’t be).
I plan to run two half marathons by February and a full next December. In between February and December, I’ll probably fun another half or two and some 10Ks.

Same boat here on the watch. I dont want to spend a ton on a Garmin yet that loads into the phone, etc.
This morning I bought a Timex Ironman One GPS+ on Ebay that will do everything I need for $35.
All I need right now is distance, pace and splits for intervals. I can continue to manually enter my times into Strava for records.

Polar & Tornado,
I'm a newer runner and started with Timex Ironman and it was perfect--> all I was learning was pace and distance
I switched because I fell in love with Strava & their premium services so it was just easier with a Garmin.

I have a birthday coming up. I asked the wife (no pics) for a GPS watch. Now I’m thinking my 10-lap Ironman is fine until I get to marathon training. I don’t have actual running shoes so I think I really, really need those. I’ve been running in generic Nike tennis shoes.

If I were debating between the two I’d start with shoes especially with the upcoming plans you have in regards to races, but my wife thinks I have a shoe buying problem though.

I second this opinion, especially if you are running in generic Nike tennis shoes. I'm about 200 miles & a month into my most recent pair, and I'll probably pick up another pair in the next two weeks before I attempt my marathon. I've had zero problems with my feet, and finding the right shoes can be very important in avoiding injury.

I have my 1st race of my Higdon plan...
This week called for hard 6 so I'm doing a 10K and treating it like a race.
Fitness and endurance is my issue and I've held a 49:59 pace into about 4.5 miles. That is my 2019/20 goal so I'll see how far off I am this weekend.
I love the plan since it allows & promotes races on days and weeks where the miles fall in place.
My initial notes and goals for the fall paces look like this:
49:59 10K --> 1:55 half in October --> 1:49 half late December --> enjoyable marathon
These are stretch goals for me but that is, personally, what I have to do to get out of my comfort zone.

Am I crazy for trying to run a 15K on 10/26, half in mid-December, half In early February, half in mid-March, and 10K in April.
Is that too much? Or can I just keep the train rolling?
