Reading this thread is humbling.

Finished the 5th week of Couch to 5k. Last day was running 2 miles or 20 mins without walking. Only the second time in my life I can recall doing that. Ran a relatively flat sidewalk track and averaged a 9:20 mile. I’d love to get that down to anything under 9.

That’s the tough part... the mental part.

Trail ran today instead of my usual C25K stuff. Red Mountain Park here in Bham is cool. Tons of people there at 10AM. Oddly, it was a bunch of tourists. Bunch of Asians taking photos and people hiking with their dogs.

Ran up hill to Grace Overlook. About 1.25 miles. It took me a little over 10 mins which was disappointing, but it was uphill on a trail with people.

Ran the 2.25 back down without stopping. That was fun. Think I enjoy the trails much more so than the street stuff. Still trying to build my endurance. I amazed at how much hard even a slight elevation makes running.

No doubt. Good work man, keep it up.

Come along with me later this month. Flying to Chile for the Atacama Crossing. 155 mile self supported race through the Atacama desert. Race organizers only provide hot/ cold water, tents and medical supervision. We have to carry all supplies for the race in our backpack. Regarded as the driest place on the planet. Race starts at 10,400 feet of altitude and stays between that and 4,500 feet for all 155 miles. Sand, sand dunes, sand and more sand...

I'd take a guess and say that that would qualify as physically and mentally uncomfortable. Good luck with that one!

Been not overly active this past week. Grandfather passed away. 94. WWII and Korean War Navy vet. Great man. He will be missed.

Have the 5th Ave Mile in NYC this weekend. The elites will be on NBC Sports. I will not be in that group

Aiming sub 6. Will be tough because I’ve never done a mile before so I have no idea how to pace so I’ll set my phone to let me know pace at quarter mile intervals and just run as hard as I can

Condolences

That’s really awesome about the mile, that sounds like a blast. Hard to describe the pace, should be fairly labored but obviously not a sprint

Training plan for NYC had a 7 mile interval run today.

1.5 WU
4x1 (9:30, 8:40, 8:20, 9:30)
1.5 WD

Did a 2 mi WU as it was 4am. Ended up going way too fast on the first interval. Second interval was 8:31. Third I just couldn't get lower and ended up with 8:41. Fourth was sub 9 as well.

I thought this was going to be tough, but felt really good afterward. I wish I could redo that 4th interval. I could have pushed harder.

Oh come on boys, no reason for sour grapes. I mean all you have to do is try. It's not like running a seven minute mile is hard to do... if you try, like just a little bit.

No pressure on you my brother. These fools have been running for years longer than me and you. I won't hit my 2 year until December. Hadn't run for 17 years previously and smoked. You get what you give is all I'm trying to say.

Funny you mention that, this Saturday's 1 miler is the actual 1 year of anniversary of my first run...a solid 11:56 mile with my neighbor and some Nike Airmax.
