Ran in the Twilight Classic last night in BR. Start time of 6:30. Finished 3rd at 19:56; obviously a small field (maybe 200?).
Told myself going in I'd be happy with a sub 20, considering the circumstances (night race, worked all day so had been up since 2:00 am, shitty course, August heat...). Mission accomplished. Barely. LOL.
That said, goal still stands for the Fall-Spring to beat the 19:15 I ran earlier this year and hopefully break 19 in doing so. I'll likely not be doing any 5K specific training as the plan is to shift to Marathon training once my goal HM is complete at the end of October.

So I updated my 5K from yesterday into my plan and of course my VDOT dropped (52-50) and training paces got slower. I was using my 19:15 from February in near perfect weather. Guessing I should keep my most current time from yesterday in there as unfortunately it's where I'm at fitness wise with heat taken into account. Kind of a bummer but it is what it is. I probably needed to run my easy runs slower anyway at least until temps drop. We'll see; what a tangled web we weave.

Did just under 6 miles in the trails this morning. My biggest fear is sustaining a serious injury while I’m out there as I usually run by myself.
I used to love running without a phone out on trails but after crossing paths with a coral snake, my first thought was “man, I would love a picture of that.” Then my thought was , “what would I have done if that thing had bit me and I didn’t have a phone.”
Between that and the fact that a lot of my runs are on work trips I just always bring a phone in case. I usually map out trails I don’t know pretty well before I get going for that reason.

Kilian wins the Pikes Peak Marathon by 10 minutes in 3:27. Looks like he ran basically the full ascent as a training run in 2.5 hrs earlier this week, too.
Cue more pointless LetsRun Carpenter and Jornet arguments. Although, I guess that captures LetsRun’s discussion on any topic.

And Sage takes 2nd. That oughta liven up the LR boards.

I think the positive performance will stave off most of the hate from the unregistered “sage is a douchebag fraud” accounts

Yeah true, although I still laugh about the “Sandy Noshaver” handle some dude had when starting a thread bashing him for being Vegan.

Dude’s got some thick skin to continue to post there. Maybe he likes the ego boost from the “Sandy is hot” accounts

It's that time for me --> Just received my Hal Higdon Customized Beginner plan with first run on 9/9
Tuesday- Thursday get longer during the plan and we might drop Monday lower if my recovery is impacted.
Monday: 1-1.5 hour run, bike, or swim at/below 155 heart rate
Tuesday: 4+
Wednesday: 5+ pace run one week, 5+ by feel on harder side one week
Thursday: 4+
Saturday: Long Run (8-20)
4 total weeks of 13/14 mile runs on Saturday and they said go ahead and sign up for halfs
Half PR attempt on 12/8 in College Station = 1:49:xx
Need to commit to better nutrition to get some more body fat off and have more energy.

My Bil’s 40th is this weekend and then diet time gets real. No more Popeyes spicy chicken sandwiches.

Ive done that hike several times and 3:27 is mind boggling

When I hiked it earlier this year, I thought the 1-2 people I saw power hiking above the tree line were freak shows
According to his Strava activity, this dude was running 11-12 minute miles up there

Any of y’all in here run with an Apple Watch? I have been having issues the past couple of weeks with my distances and pace being off. Today’s run was 3 tenths of a mile off on a route I’ve run frequently. I run with a series 3 and do not pair it to my phone when running. It’s making it hard to get accurate stats when working out.

I switched to Garmin because my Apple Watch was inaccurate

Got talked into a fun run 5k this evening
I haven’t ran more than sprints in probably a month
This is going suck

Updated the OS on my iPhone and Apple Watch and recalibrated the GPS on my Apple Watch. I also pulled out my old Garmin forerunner 210 and ran with both today. Both were comparable with pace and distance and the distances were accurate compared to previous runs. Hopefully, it holds up or I’ll be looking for a new Garmin.
