I switched to Garmin because my Apple Watch was inaccurate
It's almost funny how inaccurate the Apple Watches are. My buddy and I put in a 10 miler a couple weeks back. Simple out and back route. Only 3 or 4 turns. Easily measured using google maps. He fell behind me around mile 4 and never was able to catch up. Started and finished at the same point. His Apple watch gave him an extra 0.6 miles, and a quicker pace of course. We joke that Apple programs their watches to make out of shape people feel like they are accomplishing more than they really are.

Mine was giving me the opposite. Slower paced and shorter distances than what I had actually run. I’m going to do several more runs with my Garmin and Apple Watch to see what happens and how they compare.

Anybody else following UTMB today? It’s my favorite race.
Although no Killian or Walmsley.
I think Zach Miller has the best chance of the Americans to make the podium. I love Zach running style. Dude just runs as hard as he can for as long as he can, which is kinda dangerous as he is prone to blow up (see UTMB last year) but when it works he can run with the best.

Have my last race (10K) of the summer tomorrow.
I'm going to make an effort to push myself out of comfort zone and start teaching myself to race when it gets physically & mentally uncomfortable.
Less worrying about pace alerts and more focus on feel.

Ran a personal best 23:59 in a 5k this morning. Felt great.

@ RS Great race this morning, can’t PR them all but it looks like today was another good learning run.
@ GetCocky
Great job man! It’s always awesome to hear about a PB.
Both y’all keep kickin arse.

At my parents for the long weekend and since they live about a mile from the trailhead to LA’s longest trail system (Wild Azalea), I decided to hit up my old trails.
Just like old times, I got my Mom to drop me off at a road crossing and I ran back home. This was my go-to section to run back in the day. Total is about 7.6 miles if you include the bit of road running back to my parents house.
Very much enjoyed getting back on the trails this morning. I certainly wasn’t fast, but that wasn’t what I cared about this morning.
Also the perks of running at my parents house; an after run dip in the pool and a stack of pancakes and coffee waiting for me.
It’s good to be home.

Nice Rick. I was running about 50 miles from you and it was a humid MFer. Not the day to try and swing for the fences.
Nice job cocky.

I ran a random set of trails in Rockwall this week it was muddy and winding. Never went in a straight line longer than 100m. Averaged over 12:00 pace but it was a ton of fun. I felt like it was a good effort but there was no way I was going to set any records.

It was like a blanket was laying on me in the woods this morning. Super thick humidity and no breeze. Dead calm.
Also some nice climbs that I found myself knee hiking up. Felt like I was at UTMB...sorta.

Which trail section did you run? I just recently started running out there and did about 7 miles on the Lakeshore trail today. I really enjoy the change of scenery and elevation.
Posted on 8/31/19 at 9:27 am to gsadle5
The first section by Valentine Lake.
It’s a great trail system. Seems to be kept in better shape these days as well.

I still haven’t hit that section yet. It’s on my list in the next couple of weeks.

@cocky--> great job man
Everyone else, thanks a ton.
I achieved my goal today of not thinking and allowing myself to be reckless. I wanted to push till my legs broke down and see if I would quit, walk, or keep running. For example, I was just off my 5K pr at the turn around and that was a tough pill to swallow knowing I had to do it again.
Of course the splits are ugly but I'm 100% ok with that today.
Moving forward it is good to know heavy legs still work and I can reset, focus on form, and push.
Once again , thanks.

Temps are dropping and the paces are starting to drop a little bit too
Got a big test tomorrow with 16 miles planned

Watched a good bit of it Fri night. I love that you can watch the whole thing live pretty much. The scenery is top notch. Those little Swiss Alps towns are so damn neat; postcard esque. How’d the 5K go?
@ rsande - good job on the 10K dude. Nothing to be ashamed about with those splits. You’ll be rolling in the Fall.
@ hb - how’d it go this am? Strava must be glitchy because I only see 12 miles? Lol
Got in a Half this am to cap a 46 mile week. Only had 12 in the plan but took a CD mile and went another .1. Plan called for 2 WU, 10 @ 7:15-7:32. Ended up at 1:43 for the Half.

Strava actually was glitchy this morning just like it is about every Sunday morning.
Felt like hot trash all week. I caught that thing that's going round last Saturday and am still sick/recovering. Today's run was painful but the LSD pace was on target. In spite of all the cold/flu nonsense, I think I got my most miles ever in a week.
Glad you got a good week man, sounds like you're really hitting your stride with your training. Remind me, this is a marathon?

Yeah Strava always sucks on Sundays it seems. Definitely a pattern.
Sucks about the bug, hopefully it clears up soon.
Northshore Half on 10/27. Depending on how it goes I’m planning to shift to semi structured Marathon training for the La in January. Planning to just bump up the long run each week until about 22. That said, I may hit up the Daniels coaches and see if they can just piggyback Marathon training onto my current 2Q HM plan. Once again, it will all depend on how I do on 10/27 and my satisfaction with the plan. Without looking, I think it’s about 12 weeks from the NS race until the La., so may work out perfect.

Nope, cut it short
May have a setback that I’ve been trying to avoid. The outer edge of my right foot is killing me if I go more than a few miles. Wonder if there isn’t a stress fracture or something.
