Yeah, I'd end up pretty damn mangled if I attempted something like that.

looks like one more solid week in the 90s and then a cooler labor day weekend as we start winding down the temps.

did a 97 degree run yesterday and planning on a long and very slow one this afternoon.

i'm going to be working on pushing it to 9:00+ miles on longer runs this next month because speed isn't going to be a factor for this race.

getting towards the end of the hanson plan. one hard run left in the morning, then a nice taper. the mid week runs have been tough. but it has been nice to not have to do so much on the weekend.

Nice. How many MPW did you top out at? 5K this weekend that wasn't built into my plan so I'm having to move a few things around to try to be somewhat fresh while not skimping on the mileage. Worked out good actually as this week had no speed work planned, only easy runs.

Trying not to obsess too much about nailing every run every day of the plan. Just doing the best I can whilst juggling life and running. Enjoying myself with having some guided workouts/runs and letting the rest fall where it may.

64. i am coming from the higdon intermediate II plan, so this is a big jump for me.

i hear you on not obsessing about the runs. i bonked out on one run this plan, and it bothered me the whole day. gotta move on from stuff like that.

On week 4 of Couch to 5K. Shin splints starting to bother me a little bit and have hampered me in the past. I got the calf compression sleeves this week and have been icing every evening. Running on the gravel warning track at the local ball fields and not pavement or concrete. I rotate shoes between Brooks Pure Flow 7s and Asics Sonoma 4s. Following the stretch plan I found HERE on my off days (C2 5K is only three days a week Mon/Wed/Fri). Walk the trail at work every day on my breaks. I can usually get about 3 miles a day in walking.

My 5K is Sept 21st. It will be a flat road course.

I like the idea of trail running. there's a gravel trail near the house that I've been on once this week. I'd like to get into that if I can keep these shin splints from killing me.

Beginner (again) runner here.

I'm currently on week 2 of c25k. M,w,f. I'm also jogging/walking 1 mile on Tues , Thurs. I know I'm supposed to take off days, but I enjoy running so much. Truthfully, it's the only excersise I do or even want to do.

Years ago I completed the c25k and then was running 3 miles, m,w,f and 4 miles, Tues and Thurs. Everything was good for a while, then I pulled something in my back in the middle of my run. It was extremely painful and I could barely walk straight for weeks. Anyway, I had a lot of stress going on in my work and personal life at the same time and as a result I just quit running.

My question is: is anyone here successful or could recommend running 5 days a week, preferably m-f? Was I doing too much at 3-4 miles a day? Should I work my endurance up more? I've never ran a 10k and my longest run was probably 5 miles, even though I was doing 4 miles twice a week.

Tia

I have bulging disks in my back. It's a problem that doesn't go away, but is manageable with physical therapy and proper exercise. Have you had it looked at to determine the cause?

Sorry, I should have mentioned that I had an MRI when it happened. No major issues. Said I strained a muscle

Five straight days is doable, but spacing out your non-run days might be more beneficial to avoid injury. If Saturday and Sunday are absolutely no-go's, then maybe consider four run days and one cross-training day. Usually for me I do some active yoga or an active workout video, somewhere between 45-60 minutes.

You could try to start out with something like 3 miles Monday, 4 Miles Tuesday, cross train Wednesday, 4 Miles Thursday, and 3 miles Friday. Make Thursday your long run day. Then, gradually increase your mileage on all of your days to meet your mileage goals, and use the shorter run days to work on pace.

Am I doing it right? This is the feeling I get from all of the running plans I have used in the past couple of years.

I assume this equated to roughly 25-35 minutes worth of running a day. I am by no means a coach or trainer, but I would say that would be the ideal amount of time a beginner runner's workout should last. If time isn't a restriction, I would try to extend one of those workouts slightly longer, while reducing mileage and increasing speed on another.

You'll find that activities such as running often play an important role in getting through such periods. Try to keep running next time your life gets stressful. You'll probably come out better for it.

i'm a much better person physically and spiritually due to running. i like other activities, plenty, but it's one i can do consistently for the price of a few pairs of shoes a year.

obviously injuries happen, but i've found i'm more prone to them when i take excessive time off from staying in shape and getting back into it, than constantly exercising. so i've just kept running for 3 years. my wife is fairly in shape but much less active than i am and has more issues when she takes breaks and comes back.

Running is the best stress relief/mood booster I’ve ever come across by far. The high is real. Not that I was bad off by any means prior, but I’m in the best shape/healthiest I’ve ever been. Physically and mentally.

5k this morning. 15 seconds off my PR despite drinking, being at a 14 inning baseball game, and having the steepest hill I’ve ever run up in a race. Not bad.

6.63 @ a 10 min avg pace for me this morning. Newish to running and trying to run long and slow knowing the speed will follow...at least that’s what everything I’ve read has told me.

Nice boi.

Did 5 miles of trails today. I stupidly lead the group and got cobwebs to the face for an hour. Had our first major injury out there since I’ve been running for the last 3 years. Guy busted an ankle and cut his hands up. Fortunately we were running with a hand and foot surgeon.
