Per the plan hit 3 this afternoon. Felt good to run without the direct sunlight, but still humid as hell and no breeze at all. Cadence/pace are improving. Planning to wake up in the am and hit the local High School track before the 8:00 cut off.

Poured all day today, had to run my 3 inside. At least there’s and indoor track.

6 miles. 62 minutes. Included a 300 foot hill that was a mile long then rolling hills the rest of the way. Didn’t walk once. Proud of this one.

Optional 2 miles or XTrain on my plan for today, so opted for some track work.
1/2 mile warm up
10 intervals - sprint straight aways/jog curves - sprint peaks ranged from 6:10- 6:50
1/2 mile cool down
Upper body weights later.

I say I want the ability to train on hills, but I don't think I really mean it.

i hate hate hate hate hills. my group will go do them on repeat all the time and i have no desire to join them.
but i'm really good at them as well.
trails today. 5 miles at a really slow pace. i thought i just really sucked today, but i'm pretty sure i'm sick after i got back to the house.

I thoroughly enjoy progressive runs. Puts me in a much better state of mind than those runs where I start strong and fall off. I was suppose to get 5 miles in this AM, but instead got the kids ready so my wife could work out. Now I'm stuck running this evening in the heat when my pace is sure to suffer.

Signed up for IM Texas 70.3 in addition to Houston Marathon, now my spring schedule is set. No excuses from now on.

Honestly sometimes my regular runs (easy runs) accidently just turn into progressive ones. That is what happened on Mondays run. This one actually called for a 30 min build to 10k pace on my program

I find that if I start faster it’s easier to maintain a faster pace (so long as I don’t start too fast)

Been traveling for work and couldn’t do much but did get two quick runs in Mon and Tues. today did 4 Miles with a sprint/kick 800m for the last half mile. Probably will run 4-5 tomorrow and 7-8 on Saturday.

It's such a different workout, and the people who can truly adapt and conquer it appear to be in a different class. I learned this during my 15k. I'm in decent running shape, especially for slow-paced long runs with moderate hills.
But holy crap the true mountain runners I saw a couple weeks ago blew my mind. I'd seen some at the Golden Leaf but I'm always in lala land at that race. I don't even bother trying to do much at that altitude in a half marathon.
I actually tried to run the inclines in the 15k but there were two consecutive miles where I walked a good bit. They accounted for over 1200 ft gain, and there were people who just hauled arse right up it.
I've been so slammed since I got back I haven't made time to run. Tomorrow....

I’ve found that I have a really hard time getting going the first mile.
Outside of some trail runs and elevation almost every first mile is about 30 seconds off pace. I don’t know if that’s the heat or just getting closer to middle age.

A month into changing back to a healthier lifestyle and I'm down 10 lbs so far. Tomorrow I'm running my long run which will match my longest run of the year of 13.1 miles. If it goes well I may just round up to 14. The last time I went 13 mile was a run/walk 2:42:00 Louisiana Half Marathon. I paid for it so i went out for that race and it sucked!

I have the exact same issue. It's always tougher for me to get through that first mile than the later ones.

Rest day today. Running a 5k race Saturday morning.
I hate rest days. Just feels wrong.
