May have to start jumping in on this thread. I started training again a few weeks ago trying to knock out my first half this fall and first full in the spring. Jumping in on a 5k in an NAIA track meet tomorrow then a road 10k in 3 weeks

How does running unattached in college meets work? Do you just call the meet director and let them know you'd like to run?

Did a tempo yesterday which consisted of 20 mins @ 6:40 with 10:00 WU/CD.
I was pretty taxed, but the wind was pretty blowing pretty good too.
That said, I should be able to maintain at least that pace for the CCC, which will put me in the 40 min ballpark.
Pedro - Nice to have you. We have a Strava Group (TD.Com) if you’re on there.

Curious about this as well. I was watching some Colleen Quigley videos last night (complete smokeshow, damn) and saw the Bowerman Babes lining up at what seemed to be College meets.

I just want a poster...43 min or better should do it. That is the goal

I've got no shortage of female runners to follow if people are looking for pointers

I’ve definitely got in trouble for runner click or runners world Instagram posts. Half of runner click’s posts are hot chicks that I bet couldn’t do a 10k

I remember the Kip Litton story from a while a back. Incredible the amount of time and resources the guy expended to cheat and not actually run races. The thing is he was supposedly a fair runner without all the cheating - maybe even ran a sub-3:20 marathon legit. Strange deal. If the guy was breathing, he was lying. For what, no one knows.

If you get to the end of the article where the writer pins down Litton at Wendy’s it’s really amazing. Dude was the definition of a pathological liar. We can make comments about Trump or Hillary being liars and “every word that comes out of their mouths are lies” and it’s blatantly untrue. I don’t like either of those individuals but I know that mistruths and half lies happen, but most of what they’re saying is just their take on things and we don’t like it... but everything said in that interview was lying. It was really amazing.

First 90 degree run of the year. It sucked a big one. So much walking.
Went in the country and got some pretty views.
And snakes are out.

Most meets have entry standards that you have to reach. From what I remember when I was at ULM it varies from place to place but usually around 15:30 or so in the last calendar year for mid tier meets. I lucked out that this one is small because I haven’t raced anything since I graduated in 2017.
ETA: most meets use direct athletics to enter yourself and charge a fee. Im paying 20 for this one tonight

Seeking input from the running thread brain trust:
My running buddy is trying to convince me to do a trail 50k with him next weekend. Approx 3k feet of gain. Thinking it would be fun (never run that far before) but am obviously under-trained. Could probably finish but not well. He is in close to the same spot as me.
I'm sort of leaning towards it. Is this the worst idea you've ever heard?

I'm friends with a Tri-guy that does one or two 50K each year. He never puts in more than 30 running miles a week. In fact, he probably spends more time in the saddle than on his feet. He never seems to have any issues, but he also never goes out there trying to win it. In some ways, it may be easier than the marathon you recently did.

i'm signed up for a 50k.
the thing about those is that you don't need to worry about time as much. i mean you can if you want to become a competitive ultramarathoner, but it's more the experience. you'll have to settle for a lot more walking than you wanted to do i'm going to wager... or as it's called in the community "power hiking."
mine isn't till september, but i'm just trying to make 30+miles a week the norm and hopefully rachet it up in August/September. A lot of the people i follow that do it will go out at a decent clip the first 10k or half, then do timed runs/walks. 10 minutes run, 4 minute walks/2 mile run, .5 mile walk, etc.
based on your strava, i wouldn't say you're under-trained, just not trained for that type of a run, but i think you'd do fine. just try to learn how to run at a slower pace for extended times.
the local granola lady around here has numerous ultra buckles under her belt and she averages 11-14 minute miles.

Hey guys, thanks for the advice. I went ahead and signed up. Now, I've gotta figure out what I've gotten myself into. Should be fun though.
If my legs fall off or I get eaten by rabid raccoons, I'm blaming y'all

Just don’t be ashamed of walking. And walk every single hill. Don’t be a hero.

Any of you baws use Runalyze? Not bad from a pure stats stance but I can't say I'd recommend it. Look at this shite.
That vO2 and those predictions are spot on huh. Sarcasm [ON] OFF

Except for the mile time, those aren’t “that” far off from you.
I rarely use my strap so I don’t know what V02 max should be. Mine is a 49 currently but I only wear it every few runs.
