You can go keto at almost any restaurant. It's not that hard really.

The doc touts a kinetic diet as a major aid to some mental diseases

The ketogenic diet was developed in the 1920's as a very successful treatment for childhood epilepsy. It sort of fell out of use as a treatment after the invention of good epilepsy drugs.

It is a popular diet for a couple of reasons. It aids in weight loss faster than any other method of diet when compared by calorie vs. calorie intake. The workout baws love protein and hate carbs.

The actual diet, though, isn't really high in protein. It has enough protein, but most of the calories are supposed to come from fat, which is used for energy in lieu of a normal persons carbohydrate intake. Your body uses tons of energy, but very little of it should come from simple sugars.

This is true. Had a Philly cheesesteak w/o bread tonight. Was delicious.

I would strongly recommend Keto + intermittent fasting + a form of excercise you enjoy (weightlifting for me).

I've done the IF and excercise for a while. The best part of Keto, which is new for me, is the reduced cravings/not feeling obsessed with food. Sugar is an EXTREMELY addictive substance.

Carbohydrates in general are not the problem and a distinction should be made between simple carbohydrates and complex carbohydrates. Your body needs carbohydrates to generate energy to propel your muscles.
Simple carbohydrates flood your system with too much glycogen which causes your pancreas to work overtime to clear your bloodstream and you wind up storing the extra glycogen in fat cells in addition to wearing out your pancreas causing type 2 diabetes.
Complex carbohydrates metabolize more slowly and do not overwork your system which does not cause you to increase your fat.
Over-eating is a big problem in this regard. We don't need big 4 course meals. It would be much better for you to eat one of those courses every hour.

For anyone suffering from any sort of restless sleep or lack of sleep issue, give the diet a whirl.

This thing was found online. It was about forty bucks for slim magazine style book and a good food bad food chart for the fridge. Flat Belly after 50. But I took his ideas and pretty decent recipes and realized his plan and Atkins and the Primative diets are similar and found additional resources like YouTube hacks and cheats for this sort of thing.

Did some cooking and preparing (especially breakfast) for the week on Sunday. Shopped Saturday or Sunday evening. I found that breakfast became simple like three or four eggs and steak cooked in quantity previously and reheated in the pan prior to cooking the eggs, Suppers got more simple. Baked sweet potato cooked in a special oven mit like glove for baking them in the microwave. Steak or pork chops or baked ham and a simple but large salad and or steamed vegetables. Fairly quick to do and like I said when you do cooking or preparing salad or cutting veggies do enough for a couple of days worth.

I've been down that Sixty hour road and empathize. And life keeps rolling along. I encourage you to give it a shot if for no other reason than to be able to keep on keeping on.

I note a few things from my prior post (on Keto ranging from strict to only strict on weekdays)
Started because cholesterol test was into the high range, prescribed meds (Lipitor) but I learned could cause other problems. After 6 months with only light/moderate exercise, level had dropped well below high.

Dropped 20 lbs consistently.

Snoring problem gone.

Feels good to eat food that gets you full quick but later you feel full but not bloated.

Just have to pick your battles.

Keto is 100% legit. I have been doing it the past year. I didn't do it for weight loss. I mainly did it as a way to get rid of sugar.

There is a period most people go through where they feel like shite. This lasted about a week for me. After that you will feel absolutely amazing. If you are getting ready to do something active like a marathon you can binge some carbs in advance and you will feel like He-Man.

Many scientists. If you're referring to What The Health, it is total garbage.

Magic Pill was definitely a propaganda piece, but the principles are backed by science. As far as the results? They are certainly within the bounds of things we are consistently seeing in studies, but we need to keep moving forward with longer, higher-n studies.

Also, health and fitness board.

Three reasons you aren't alone in this fear:
1) mainstram SAD is high in shitty processed, high Omega 6 fats

2) we've been indoctrinated for decades that dietary fat and cholesterol lead to excess body fat and CVD. Untrue if you're eating good fat

3) loading fat on top of sugar is quite literally a recipe for disaster.

Read Cholesterol Code, Malcolm Kendrick, and the latest studoes on inflammation v cholesterol re CVD bugaboo.

This.

Glad to hear you did it without statins.

I spent a lot of time researching statins.

Rx of them assumes cholehsterol is an actor in cardiac events and not a bystander at the scene of the crime. Indications are inflammation is the major culprit in many diseases, cardiac among them.

It also assumes wholesale reduction of cholesterol is a good thing. Some things I read hinted that indiscriminate Rx of statins tampered with brain function and may correlate with rising early onset dementia and Alzheimer's. Big pharmaceutical and the AMA will really track that down.

Statins apparently have serious side effects particularly inhibiting or retarding ATP at the mitochondrial level. Too many others to name. A former NASA astronaut and flight surgeon, an M.D., wrote a book detailing how statins nearly killed him. Packed it for recent move and can't remember the name. Ha! Ironic.

I’m a few pages late, but wanted to chime in. I’ve posted details and pics of my results from doing Keto over on the Food board. I was an offensive lineman in college, pushing 300 lbs at right at 6’0 tall. I dropped down to 176 at my lowest, and currently been maintaining 185 for the last year, and I would describe my physique as toned and muscular, with visible abs. The only exercise I ever did was pushups, crunches, and pull-ups.

If you take it seriously and stick to it without “cheating,” it is legitimately a life changing diet. I have never looked or felt better, 3 years later.

Lots of nope. Fat actually has more ATP output then glycogen, so burning fat equals more energy. Double the energy per gram actually.

You do have organs that needs carbs to function, but very little. And typically on a keto diet they get plenty from the vegetables you take in.

Like someone else said, pre-cook as much of your food as you can. Bake a bunch of chicken breasts and slice them up as needed. Brown a couple of pounds of good quality ground beef and use that to make tacos with low carb tortillas. Cook a package of good bacon and then store in a ziploc. Buy an egg cooker like the Daisy brand one (I think) on Amazon. It’s cheap and makes 6 hard boiled eggs at a shot. Peel them and store in a ziploc bag. Use the bagged lettuce or broccoli florets so you can just grab a handful when needed. Cook a couple of bunches of asparagus by blanching and then baking in the oven and store them in a ziploc for eating/snacking.

Sweet potatoes aren’t great for the diet but they are easy to bake and you can wean yourself off of them - just like with a fork a bunch of times, microwave for 4 minutes, flip, and 4 more minutes. Eat it as plain as you can stand.

If you are really working 60 hours a week, get in the habit of intermittent fasting by skipping dinner and going to bed early. Don’t drink anything that isn’t water, tea, or coffee.

I can tell you my story as I watched this documentary as well but not sure if all is true or not but one thing I do believe as long as pharmaceutical companies are making the money they are now with BP, High Cholesterol, and cancer drugs they will do anything NOT to lose that profit.

My cousin had been on Keto for over a year and had lost over 80lbs. I didn't think I was over weight but just wanted to tone up some.

Started Keto Diet April 30th, 2018
Age: 48
Weight: 184.6lbs
Meds: Borderline high BP and Taking Nexium at least every other day for Heart burn.
Exercise: I was working out with weights or running 5 days a week. Would lose a few pounds then gain them right back.
Eating: I was eating the traditional "Healthy Diet"

Today:
Weight: 168.2lbs this morning.
Meds: None. I have no heart burn any longer and BP is in the good range.
Exercise: I now lift weights 3 days a week and light cardio 1-2 days
Eating: Keto diet but not much processed meats and more chicken thighs, breast, white meat pork, and fish.

This Lifestyle change has made me more defined than I have been since I was in High school in just two months. My workouts are great and I'm still using the same weights in the gym.

Cons: You have to prepare your food. It's hard especially at work if you don't buy and prepare ahead of time.

Going out to eat can be a challenge but more and more places are putting in Keto friendly options.

You will lose a lot of weight the first week which is mostly water weight. If you start cheating then you will gain it right back. You have to stay on keto for at least a month before having a cheat day.

I miss some of the food like potatoes(Which I do eat from time to time now), flour tortillas, beans. Sugar: I never was a big sweet eater so for me this wasn't hard.

Keto Flu is real. You will feel terrible for 3-5 days about a week in to this diet. It will pass though.

In conclusion it's worked for me and I do not plan on stopping. I am thinking of modifying it somewhat to add more complex carbs though. I'll see if that affects my weight any but overall I feel great.
