This according to my primary care doctor. I have experienced 4 attacks that I thought were gallstones. Had all of the symptoms of that occur during those attacks. There were several months in between them in the last year. Went away after about an hour of charlie horse like pain under my upper right rib. I was writhing in pain. After the fourth I went to the doctor.

He orders a complete blood count, lipid panel, and comprehensive blood panel. Everything through out the lab results were great compared to my last two labs (glowing in fact, plus lost 22 more pounds/ 83 total since 2017).. accept when it got to..

Bilirubin 2.7mg/dl
AST 426 U/L
ALT 380 U/L

He called me today and said I have mild to severe inflammation of the liver. He ordered 6 more tests. Which are..

Bilirubin, Total and Direct
Iron, TIBC and ferritin Panel (FE, TIBC, %SAT, Ferritin)
Gamma GT
Protime-INR
Hepatitis panel, acute w/reflex
Us abdomen LTD

plus ultrasound of my liver.

I have a low salt, low fat, keto type of diet with a fruit smoothie each day. However like an idiot, I gorged on sugar for a year and a half. I have stopped for a month now and will never eat added sugar again.

So what do you think might be occurring? At those levels is it reversible? Any analysis would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Are you a heavy drinker? I’m not a doctor so ignore absolutely everything I say.

Please keep us posted. Sorry to hear that. I'm freaking out because my AST went from 25-45 and ALT from 27-46. Crazy that you had that much of a jump in a year?

I second the question about alcohol consumption?

I had fatty liver but it was from way to much beer. Quit drinking, starting moving/exercising as well as eating healthier for the most part. Went back about 2 months later to have labs drawn again, everything back in normal range. Hopefully same for you. It is reversible if it’s just fatty liver. Best of luck

What were your AST/ALT when you had fatty liver? I exercise/run at least 5-6 days a week, but do love some IPA's. I probably shouldn't have had labs done 2 days after our annual beach trip.

A lot of different things can cause elevated liver enzymes. Wait until you get your additional test results back before you go down the diagnosis rabbit hole. I would definitely not be drinking alcohol or taking any supplements that can cause liver strain until you find out the cause.

Start exercising more, lay off the beer and booze, and take a daily milk thistle supplement. It’s for liver health

Mine was about like yours 450ish and 340ish but my pancreas was also screwing up. Again I was drinking heavily for a while. I’m not sure but it’s possible if you had binge week before labs that probably wasn’t the best idea.

Mine were 45 & 46. Not in the 400’s. But still doubled from previous Labs.

And yeah, I already scheduled follow ups 6 months from now. Won’t binge the week before for sure.

I haven't had a drink in 10 years. Socially drank before that.

Doc thinks I have too much iron in my blood. My second round of tests says that I am taking in 4 times more than I should. No hep of any kind thank god. My GGT test is over 500. So not good there.

So you supplement with iron? Can be very risky to try to do on your own.

Do yourself a favor and consult your doctor. Then get a second opinion. A liver is nothing to mess around with. For the record, I like mine smothered in onions.

Had a similar situation, but once I cut 10 pounds they quickly went back to normal (about 6-8 months). ALT jumped from 22 to 49, now 20. AST went from 17 to 28, back at 17.

My alcohol consumption did not change much, at that time.

Edit: I also was advised to start taking 2,000 IU of Vit D daily around the same time for a different reason, but have no idea if it could be related to the rebound.

Educate me about this. We use cast iron instead of nonstick.

Ask your doctor if a Vitamin D supplement will help.

Well, no.

Edit: putting aside for now the issues with the above, fructose is a liver killer, esp combined w alcohol.
