How much to budget for an in-home gym?

Just the basics:
Squat rack
Bench
Olympic bar
Clips
Dumbells (10-50 pound pairs)
Plates (say 250 pounds total)
Don’t need a lot. Just a basic free weight set to supplement marathon training. No problem with used equipment. Any tips for finding good deals?

You can get that easily for probably under $5000. As for the the dumbells, get the power blocks. Probably cheaper than getting a bunch of pairs. You can get a rack for under $1000 from Rogue. The expense will come from the plates. Bumper plates will be higher than metal plates. Go to roguefitness.com or maybe check out Eleiko.

Under $5,000 is easily doable. Personally, I would invest in a good quality rack and barbell. You can get those for $1,000-$1,500.
Plates, try to pick up used plates. They have a super long lifespan. Flooring, get horse stall mats.
That's the core of a home gym. Add a bench (I don't think you need super high quality here unless you are over 300-350) and that's it.

Quality Rack and bars are a must. Shop around for deals for the rest.
Adjustable DB's are the way to go. I wish I would have done that in the beginning. DBs and a rack take up too much room.
Rogue has a few bar and plate package deals. I started with the Socal Econ bar and plate set for $480. It is an Echo bar and 160 lbs of bumper plates. From there I added plate weights on where I could find deals new or used.

depends on your location honestly and how good you are at craigslist. Fro example I was able to get a EliteFTS R3 powerrack, 0-90 elitefts bench, texas power bar, fight gone back clock and 315lbs of troy weights for 850 by being good at CL and jumping on a deal in houston when it popped up.
But new, budget 5k.

I probably should have put more emphasis on it being used. I certainly can't spend $5000 on a gym set. I might as well get a membership to Lifetime for $150/month (family).
But if I could get it used for less than $1000, I'd do it. It'd pay for itself in a year and then I could slowly add to it over the course of a few years as I needed more, if I needed more.

Where are you at currently? My BIL has a dumbell set from like 5 to 75lbs I think he's trying to sell in DFW

Squat Rack - Titan X3 490
Bench - Rogue Flat 200
Bar - Rogue Ohio Bar 300
Clips - Amazon plastic clamp style ~15
Dumbbells - Power blocks ~100-200
Plates - ~150
~1300-1400
In addition to, I'd add
Rogue Matador for 3x3 ~80
Curl Bar ~50
Spud, Inc pulley system ~100
Pulley attachements ~40
Plate stand ~100
Everything new except plates and power blocks.

B'ham, AL.
I'll scavenge Craigslist for a while. Maybe a few pieces here and there will pop up. It's the good squat rack I'll probably have to pay for.

This is individual preference, but I got a TRX, which covers most of those.

You can do skullcrushers and reverse grip curls on that?

Yeah. TRX is actually pretty versatile. Example of skull crushers:

thats pretty cool
I use it for suspended abs stuff, curls, triceps, rows and face pulls pretty regularly.
Hamstring curls are hard but doable.

Hamstring curls are a bitch. Put your heals in, lower back off the ground and bring the knees in like a crunch. Smokes the hammies!

I recommend getting a cage over just a squat rack for a home gym.

If you watch the Atlanta market, you should be able to get something nice. And you need atleast a half cage for at home lifting.
And gymnastics rings are better for at home than trx as they are a little more versatile

I think maybe like $500-600, but could be wrong about that. Comes with a pretty nice bench as well. I know he was trying to sell them a while ago so I assume he still would. Can get more info for you.
