re: Does intermittent fasting work?
It does, but really the time restricted eating window just makes it easier to be in an overal caloric deficit.

I’ve done for fairly long stretches of time and it’s worked great for me.

For some it’s a lifestyle, as it was for me for a while, but I’ve learned to treat it more like a tool in the toolbox.

At the end of the day being in a caloric deficit is what is going to lead to weight loss. Whatever helps you to achieve that is what you should do.

re: Does intermittent fasting work?
I over-endulge right before I go to bed and am totally sober, so if allowed food can easily become a vice, even when I eat as clean as I do.
The #1 IF does for me is it gives my digestive system a 16 hour rest. Way less farting, no diarrhea, everything downstairs is regular and on time like clockwork.
#2: it keeps me really sharp in the morning on nothing but espresso until noon(I eat noon-8pm).
#3: I find there to be a sleep improvement.
#4: I find there to be an endurance improvement.

re: Does intermittent fasting work?
It works great for me. I eat noon-7pm.

After a little bit it's super easy, some days you have to actually eat more just to get the total calories you want.

I already drink a decent amount of water but this forces you to drink a lot

If you're someone who eats throughout the day and is having a hard time controlling your calorie intake then yes I would look into it.

Just don't confuse IF with actual multiday fasting. IF is basically skipping breakfast or dinner which can be very helpful with lessening calories. But there is a whole other stack of benefits that comes with multiday fasting.

re: Does intermittent fasting work?
It’s 100% a lifestyle. I eat once a day starting at 5pm.

I compare it to a lion or tiger. They dont wake up to a breakfast buffet. They work their arse off to get the food. They gorge. Then they sleep.

I’ve lost and kept off 40 lbs for 6 years now. I’m 42 and stronger and in better shape than anytime in my 30’s. I have increased my muscle mass enough to where people ask if I use HGH.

Hell yes it works.

Read my thread down from yours. I've lost 29 pounds in 7 weeks. I have been doing IF, eating 1500-1800 calories a day M-F and 1000-1500 calories on Saturday and Sunday. HIIT training 3-4 times a week and weights 4-5 times a week.

re: Does intermittent fasting work?
I've fasted pretty consistently for 6 months. Only in the last 3 have I greatly cut down on drinking, by my standards, but still have drinks on the weekend. I've lost around 40 pounds with that combination. (250 to 210)

I find it to be the easiest reset for bad habits. Currently, I fast Monday-Wednesday and try to keep it to OMAD Thursday and Friday. I started on OMAD and tried extending fasts over time only drinking water and coffee. Don't get crazy, eat when you need to but only when you need it, not when you want it.

re: Does intermittent fasting work?
I don't do it as consistently as others but have averaged 1-2 16 hour fasts per week and one 24 hr fast per month (over the past couple of years). I'm not looking to lose weight although could benefit from 5 lbs or so.

I feel like it gives me good energy, possibly reduces inflammation, and offsets the occasional 'bad' diet choices I make. I've read that it's good for testosterone in men although not sure to what extent. I've become a believe that it's a good thing to implement, whether on a consistent basis or less consistent like me.

This... I've done IF for a few years now. There's nothing magical about it, but it's an easy, mindless (for lack of a better term) way to reduce caloric intake that allows you to not be overly stringent in terms of what your food choices are (obviously the better you eat, the more effective it is). I do think it has some other benefits - digestion improvement; blood sugar / insulin-sensitivity improvements, but nothing earth-shattering.

Longer-term fasting (I've done a few 3 to 5 day) fasts, from my experience, appears to provide greater, more lasting improvements. Anecdotally speaking, my sleep, fat loss capabilities, muscle retention (likely from an increase in testosterone and/or HGH)have all improved, and I generally look younger than I did prior. Going to continue doing this in the hopes of additional improvements.

re: Does intermittent fasting work?
I have been dabbling in IF since Jan 22nd or so.
I left for work out of the country and had nothing else to really do. So I trained and decided to IF and eat healthy. At first I was discussed because I did not drop any weight but around Feb 13th or so I could see a difference,
While out of town I had time to do some research, I realized what I thought was IF, I was cheating. I would put a splash of creamer or Splenda in my coffee. Once I stopped that weight started to drop.

This past weekend I did not follow the IF program, I also had beers due to a fishing trip planned with out of town friends. But I did watch my food intake to offset the beer cals. Started back on Sunday.

So to sum this up I started

Jan 22nd 6' 230lbs
This morning March 12 215lbs
Also my body just feels better

If this way of eating allows me to maintain or even drop weight, and seems like I can also enjoy a weekend ever now and then, I am thinking this may be the ticket.

I will check back in, bit I am trying to get down around 200-205, which I have never seen in years.
And I typ train 4-6 days a week and eat a high protein low carb diet. (NO Junk/sweets)

Will see how this goes, good luck to everyone

re: Does intermittent fasting work?
It’s worked for me and I’m not really hardcore about it.

Iwas the first poster said it’s really just the easiest way to lower your calorie intake.

During the work week I auually Don’t have anything besides water and coffee with sweet n low.

I’ve lost about 20 pounds in 9 months, but I am not super strict about it.

I eat Long on the weekends and I eat Lunch on days I’m off so the holidays will set me back. I have consistently lost weight with minimal effort, and because I know I’m only getting one meal I have Become more beutrition conscious.

re: Does intermittent fasting work?
Probably a dumb question, but does anything non water break the fast? I drink amino energy in the morning cause I don't like coffee which is 15 calories for 3 scoops.

re: Does intermittent fasting work?
Good cheats for day one and two to help me survive was celery / cucumber juice, and some fermented sauerkraut. Of course black coffee and tons of sparkling water all helped as well

re: Does intermittent fasting work?
That’s awesome. I’ve been doing low carb/ high protein for 2 1/2 weeks now. Started the IF along with the low carb a week ago and it’s accelerated the weight loss.

I’ve always been a deceivingly athletic bigger guy. Started 2 1/2 weeks ago at 276 lbs but I’ve always been able to lift heavy and run sub 7:30 miles and sub 30 minute 5K’s. (For my fat arse I always considered that decent)

Anyways I used to fluctuate between 220-235 and then I got happily married. Continued to workout but got carried away eating garbage and got up to 280 which I’ve never been to.

2 1/2 weeks in I’m down to 255 which my wife thinks is crazy fast but with the amount of garbage I cut out it hasn’t been that hard. Especially since I started the IF eating only noon to 8 pm.

Seeing other people’s success in this is really encouraging me to keep pushing for that weight I used to be at.
