There is nothing better than watching the greatest golfers in the world shoot 5 over

Augusta when the course is fast and firm with some wind is the perfect test of golf.
I don’t mind seeing them struggle a little bit.

They’re the best players in the world. The best player of the day should be able to shoot under par, and that happens at Augusta. If Oakmont gets firm this weekend, there will be pins that you literally can’t hit a good shot into because your ball wont stop.
Watching everybody lag putt because you can’t get it to stop within 30 feet in the hole just doesn’t do it for me… but that’s how you produce high scores for pros

I tell ya what I hate seeing, scores of -20 and lower.
That’s bullshite.

I want them struggling out of their comfort zone
Every other tournament is so robotic and never any real challenges
I want carnage and them to whine because they aren’t getting their way

I did like seeing Rory destroy a tee marker after a bad drive earlier.

Literally anyone still in the field could win. Shoot 65 today and youll be in contention

Challenging course. It’s fun to see the best golfers struggle like weekend golfers where par feels like a huge achievement. Mistakes mean big swings on the leaderboard, so anything can happen. Strategy matters as much as raw power.

Challenging, but rewarding of excellent shots.

I much prefer 2nd shot golf courses. This course is about driving and scrambling, which isn’t a great test. That’s what the leaderboard kinda sucks

only if you drive it in the rough. These medium-long par 4s like #1, #7, #9 are very much a test of second shots for most of the field.

Yes, making shot placement off the tee the most important and penal aspect of a round makes it a first shot golf course.

Yes there are challenging approach shots. That doesn’t make it a predominantly 2nd shot course. You’re also not having to hit an array of shots into the greens relative to other tournament venues.

This.
It makes me happy watching pros hack around through the rough like I have to do.
Also…there have been good rounds every day at Oakmont. You just have to hit fairways and the right spot on the greens.
