I live in an area with lots of options. I just moved and am looking for a new club. I’m a 13.5 index and I like to play both weekday afternoons and weekend mornings. I also like a strong MGA and maybe a gin game after golf. Here are the options, I’d really appreciate your thoughts.

1) initiation 100k (spread out over 5 years). Dues: 850. Equity membership. 300 members. Exclusive, fancy amenities. Clubhouse card game is gin. 1 mile from my house.

2). Initiation 20k. Non equity. Dues: 809. 400 members. 2 courses at different locations. No clubhouse card game. 1.5 miles from house.

3). Initiation 5k. Non equity. Dues 635. 1200 members. 54 holes. Gin and poker clubhouse games. 4.5 miles from house.

4). Initiation 3k. Non equity. Dues 715. 250 members. No card players. 12 miles from house.

All have active MGA and I can get a weekday and weekend game at all of them. I think option 3 is the best. I have some reservations about non equity clubs. Anyone with experience at corporate owned clubs?

My club is with Concert Golf.
You are a number.
They will not cap the membership. They allow almost public access at times during the week for groups and such. They also have fund raiser scrambles almost weekly during good weather.

upside: It’s only $500 per month. You can play the other corporate clubs for the cart fee. I think we are somewhere around 20-25 clubs. They also have a deal with executive golfer with access to clubs. No assessments.

3 is best option.

1 is crazy w/ that $100k
2 is crazy w/ $20k and No equity
4 is kinda equal to 3, but 3 is closer

You have 108 private golf holes within 5 miles of your house? I'm jealous.

This is my thought process as well. Thanks for the response.

there is another course within 3 miles, but it’s 150k and has a three year waiting list. That one didn’t make the list.

OT Ballers all belong to #1. #3 had me at poker and is what I would do. 1200 seems like a lot of members

1200 members. 54 holes
400 members per 18 holes is alot. I imagine 1 of those courses isn't a good as the others putting more pressure on the others for tee times.

I would ask how they allocate times and availability. Also guest policy if that is important to you.

Go with #1.

Get equity, low number of members, amortized initiation, close to house, nice amenities.

You'll be glad you did over the long haul.

If the initiation doesn’t kill you then I’d say #1 as well. Might as well get into the plushest facility with everything you want and low membership. Like another poster said, if you’re going to do it then do it. Once you are sitting in that nice environment with the gin game rolling then you’ll be a happy camper. I would be willing to bet with the price point that they have the nicest course as well.

I'd go with #1 as well. Get the equity, nice amenities, and usually at those higher end clubs the members are there for more social hour and card games over golf so the course isn't always jam packed.

On a side note, you bitched at me saying you’d rather pay more money to not be bothered by the likes of me at a club, however you’re leaning to joining the cheap club with 1200 members.

What a coinkydink.

Day to day, this sounds great.

Tee sheet should be pretty open with only 300 members.

Not sure if I remember the interaction. I think it was probably you bagging on members of clubs? Is that right? I likely was just being a dick as I have been called once or twice before. I apologize. However, a 1200 member club with 3 courses is on par with most single course clubs. 400 members per course isn’t awful. I’m likely going to join club option 3. I agree with everyone that said club 1 is the best, but I just can’t bring myself to write that check. Touring both tomorrow. I’ll be decided by Monday.

Lot easier to recommend joining the 100k club when it isn’t your money.

This sounds like the Charlotte area.. def ain't Louisiana.

General concensus amongst the avg Louisiana golfer is to complain if they are charged anything more than $50 per round and also course shouldn't have a piece of grass out of place.
