The heat doesn't really bother me like it does many people. I walked/carried 18 on both Friday and Saturday, starting both rounds at 9:30-ish.

I definitely rotate 2 gloves and make sure to carry an extra towel to keep the sweat off my hands and arms. I carry an insulated water bottle and fill it up at every cooler.

I played reasonably well both days, so maybe that's why I didn't notice the heat as much.

You can use Sea Breeze or any other astringent. Just pour it in the ice water. It's the alcohol that evaporates so quickly and cools you off

I will freeze a water bottle and stick it in my bag. It will begin thawing quickly and you can refill it with water from a fountain. You will have ice cold water for your entire round, but on brutally hot days like these, that frozen solid water bottle will be done at the end of the round.

I'm on the down side of my 40's and have handled the heat worse as I've gotten older. I'm not in horrible shape, but I'm certainly not in great shape either. I could walk 18 on a hot summer day and not think twice about it when I was in college.

I've tried walking Webb Park late in the afternoon during this part of the summer a few times but after about 4 holes the heat has just zapped all the energy from my body and then I lose my swing and play like shite, making the experience more miserable.

I just go out there and play. It’s not like your roofing a house or swinging a 9 pound hammer all day. Throw some Gold Bond on your nuts and get after it. It’s 4hrs, with a motorized cart, the breeze it creates, intermittent shade trees, ice chests and beverages at your disposal, towels and every other convenience a mid aged cracker needs to survive for a few hours in the wilds of suburbia. If you’re walking 18 it’s obvious you were dropped on your head as a child and you probably won’t feel the pain of heat stroke anyway.

Soaker hat. I wear cooling sleeves too. Actually reflects suns rays and cools your arms. Hydrate plenty. Also grab shade whenever possible.

1. Play early morning rounds.
2. Hydrate the night before. If you play with a hangover, you are already dehydrated.
3. Sunscreen as said previous, at least twice a round.
4. Peanuts or my personal favorite is peanut butter crackers at the turn. Pros are eating constantly while playing. Replenish the fuel.
5. Find shade whenever and wherever you can.
6. Change gloves at the turn.
7. Big floppy hat, keep that brain stem as cool as possible.

Funny, I walked 18 at Webb last Wednesday after work. Started at 5:05 and finished at 7:25. I was sweating more at the end of that round than I was for either of the midday rounds I walked on Friday and Saturday. But $11 for an 18 hole round after work is damn hard to beat.

I guess I'm a bit weird in that I'd prefer it hot and don't really care one way or the other if the tee time is early morning/late afternoon or middle of the day. Hell I run 3 miles a few times a week with a scuba vest on to get my body temp up and sweat more. The biggest thing for me is a towel, mainly for my hands and forearms. I usually hang 2-3 gloves on the windshield frame and interchange them every couple of holes. I usually undo my glove after every shot. I don't know when or why that started, could be to help keep it dry, but also could just be that I've incorporated fastening the glove into my preshot routine over the years(I don't take practice swings so it doesn't take any extra time). I drink at least a gallon of water per day, so water isn't usually an issue for me; I just bring a Gatorade squirt bottle and fill it up a time or 3 per round. We just moved to Madison, MS so I'm still learning the courses in the area. I've played Lake Caroline a ton since my BIL lives out there, and just joined Country Club of Canton; so I guess I'll say those two, but I'll play anywhere.

I'm at Caroline, but don't have 6 hours to play a round. I play Canton if I want to get in 18.
You should get a pard and play the Canton 4 Ball next month. 3 days and good players with parties both nights

Show up to walk 18
Open beer
Hit on range
Forget sunscreen
Drink 6 on the front
Hot dog at the turn
6-10 on the back

Realize I haven't peed all day.
Hate life tomorrow.

Last couple years I’ve figured out the formula that works for me when it’s this hot.

1) tee off no later than 7:30 am
2) ride in a cart, don’t walk
3) constantly drink water but water alone is not enough. Drink at least 1 Gatorade per side
4) chug 1/2 bottle of pedialyte when I get home and pop 3 Tylenols

Since I started doing all of these I feel great all day with no issues. Plus I’m usually done by 10:30 and don’t get stuck behind anyone.

I’m 34 in good shape FWIW

I'm sorry man, if you're 34 and have to do all of that to play a round of golf riding in a cart you're not in great shape.

The heat index is ~110 by lunchtime. I sweat a lot and dehydrate easily. What the hell are you talking about?

And for as anti-American as it is to say this, save the beer for the clubhouse when you are through playing. Also walk or take your cart through as much shade as possible especially on days where play on the course is slow. Park your cart in shade whenever possible. Finally not only water, water, water but sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen.

What does listing hydration tips have to do with being in shape or not?

Are you a member at Canton? Signed up to join 3 weeks ago and played in the club championship last week. The guys I played with Saturday and Sunday were talking about the 4 ball. I think it might be full already, but the guy I played with on Sunday said he could get me in to it if I wanted. Only problem is that I'm headed out of town tonight and haven't been able to get out there to get signed up.
