The TGL sucks

3 weeks, 3 blowouts. Squirrelly distances and massive unexpected pulls on many shots. Gimmicky greens. Players have even less personality than expected. Billy horschel might be most obnoxious player ever. Just hang it up I’d rather watch funny basketball players or comedians play simulator golf than this stuff

It has some high points, but I agree the lows exceed the highs.
Has a similar feel to the showdowns or whatever they are calling them on TNT at the Vegas courses.
I think the reality is with no consequences for lack of success, the players will never care about this enough to be fun to watch.
Not saying I want to see bad golfers missing the screen, but at least the TNT exhibitions have Chuck

Agree. And the Smith interviewer character? Comically bad. Guy doesn’t know shite about golf and can’t ask interesting questions.

Meh it’s good filler for a Tuesday night. Way better than college basketball

It’s a good idea, but unsuited to the average professional golfer.
Good good did a YouTube video on it last week. Much more entertaining and you learned more about how the whole thing works.
I think you are exactly correct as to who should be playing. Shorten it down to 30-45 minute videos and throw it up on YouTube and I think you have a winner.

It has worked out well for me on Tuesdays. My wife is usually finishing work, and I half pay attention while we sit there. However, I have no idea how these double and triple headers are going to keep audiences. By the time they get to singles, a chunk of my interest is gone. It's going to get very monotonous having 45 holes straight with one of the teams playing in 30 of those holes.

A poster said last week they are using Tigers launch monitor instead of one of the top brands. Not sure why they would do this when it is clearly an inferior product and effects the game. Personally, I'd rather use a better product, have the shots be more accurate and therefor better for the viewing experience of TGL over using launch monitors that are getting no advertisement anyway and clearly showing they aren't a great product. I mean no one wants to see Tiger launch a wedge 30 yards over the green into the water and then later see another tour pro not be able to carry 220 yards with his 3 wood.

Those are actually badass imo. Would love to go to that place.

This is the biggest issue that I've said all along. These guys are incredible golfers, but they aren't entertainers. Very few of them are actually funny and really none of them can provide entertainment outside of their golf. That's not their fault, that's not what they get paid to do, but it makes watching it pretty hard when you have just boring conversations and cringeworthy jokes when they do try to joke around.

I didn’t mind Horschel. I was a little surprised to see Cantlay’s (lack of) personality.

Be is an absolute bore.

This has to be sarcasm.

I've said the same thing for years around here and get downvoted to hell and back. For some reason, because people lie these guys as golfers, they want to like them as people or entertainers. Most of them have the personality of vanilla pudding.
I've walked the course with groups as a scorer, and most of them don't say a single word to each other for 4-5 hours. They are out there grinding, I get it. However, it's hard to believe that they are going to get outside of that shell and all of the sudden be personable.
Crazy enough, most of the LIV guys would probably be the most entertaining in this format. (I'm not trying to derail this into a LIV thread.)

The format is just not for me. I'd much rather watch some of these guys play a match on a real course against Grant Horvat or some other You Tuber than to watch this TGL stuff.
The Phil vs Wesley Bryan match was fantastic. Two entertaining guys giving each other shite on the course was fun to watch.
If I want to watch guys hit balls into a screen, I'll just watch Ian Fraser or Rick Shiels do club reviews. It's more entertaining than TGL.

I love it for what it is. It's not peak sports, but there isn't anything I want to watch on a Tuesday night more than TGL.
Totally agree they need to get rid of Marty Smith and the interactions between the both and players seem forced. Just broadcast the player interactions instead of forcing it with awkward questions from the booth.

Half the time, the players don't even hear Barrie. They should just have a producer talk to the players to suggest questions to answer or comments to make.

The concept is good, but at the end of the day, most of these guys have MULTI million dollar brand deals and will be the same vanilla players we see every day.
It would be good if it actually went how they wanted and players talked trash. They should gamble also.

Watching golfers hit into a simulator forcing them to try and be entertainers while absolutely nothing is at stake is kind of a terrible concept imo.
Sure, add booze and gambling and most things become more entertaining. But they're not going to do that.

I like it. Would I watch it on the weekend? No. On a Tuesday, sure. I'm not all in but it's better than anything else on Tuesdays. Once I can get my sim back up and going (USPS sucks) we plan on doing TGL style at my house with me and my golfing buddies. Same format just won't have the fancy green. I think that will be fun.

It is about as gimmicky as it can get, especially with the ridiculous golf holes they are playing. Silly nonsense
Posted on 1/26/25 at 6:27 pm to QB
The ridiculous holes are the best part. I already watch them play normal holes in real life. We're not bound by reality, make it even crazier.
