Very popular tour stops for players before the main season starts. Gotta make cuts somewhere to make the money work.

I know facts aren’t really your thing, but the field in Waialae has not been good.

For Kapalua, it legit sucks that it’s going away. That’s a really fun tourney. But, Rolapp is looking to put tourneys in bigger markets and there are not a lot of people who go to that one.

Not many big names play in Sony Open

The Kapalua event used to be a bigger deal but again the big names were starting to want a longer winter break and didnt want to show up until Torrey Pines

man, you are desperate for a W after the LIV news, aren't you?

The bigger news is that they are considering a later start to the PGA season, which I hate. I look forward to watching golf in January as Football is winding down and there isn't much else to watch.

LIV trolls: The PGA Tour is loaded with money and they aren't paying their players enough and weren't transparent with them so they were right to form their own league!

Also LIV trolls: The PGA Tour is broke and in shambles!

Jim deserves better than The Pirate King.

Probably didn't help either that they had to cancel the Sentry this year because of a drought and water dispute that caused the course to look lime this

This isn't the first time a tour stop has been removed from the schedule. That doesn't mean another tournament won't replace it.

quote:

CEO Brian Rolapp announced in March that one part of his six-point plan to reshape the Tour’s future was to scrap the traditional schedule-openers at The Sentry and Sony Open and instead start at an “iconic” west coast venue, with Torrey Pines, Pebble Beach and Riviera all under consideration.

They should start with axing the salaries of all at the corporate office for the PGA.

Did you read the article?

Kapalua is in shambles conditions wise due to an ongoing fight for water.

The PGA expressed how expensive it was to ship production equipment to HI.

It looked pristine in January. Did they resolve the issue or is it just a seasonal thing?

Yeah, that was the report coming out when the tournament got canceled. It was dicey in the fall, but it was ready in January. It could've been the tour not wanting to take the risk, or it could have been the tour wanting to use it as a catalyst to move away from Hawaii.

Money for what?

To pay for the exorbitant tournament purses and signature events, for starters.

Before you even get to their private equity partners wanting some kind of return on their investment.

The only fields that have been weaker than the Sony this year are the Cognizant Classic and Puerto Rico Open which is an opposite field event.

I'd remove one of the 2 DFW tournaments and move the remining one to PGA Frisco

The PGA starts the year with a lot of big tournaments. The Zurich is this week, which reporter Smylie Kaufman was getting calls to play in, and the bad May-July events that no one wants to play in Canada, Minnesota, and Michigan.

ETA: and facts to back up this assertion are last years strength of field rankings, where the 2025 Sony Open was above or tied with these full-field, non-major events-

Texas Children's Open
Sentry
Valspar
Wyndham
Rocket Classic
The American Express
Canadian Open
Farmers
Valero
CJ Cup
Cognizant
3M
John Deere

Both of those have been around for 70 years and are associated with Hogan and Byron. I disagree and you basically have to keep the Colonial.

Unfortunately the Bryon sucks now but it also used to be awesome with a huge fan draw and always solid field. It was awesome at TPC Four Season, now the Ritz.
