but as usual the news from the LIV side was greatly exaggerated.

It would be impossible to overemphasize this.

Some perspective on all of this:

In short, a lot of questions about what this exactly is, what it is not, and what it can actually accomplish.

If this goes through, Pride might commit seppuku.

Did you really post a tweet that is almost 12 hours old? I thought this was going to be some new information that was different than what everyone was already discussing in the thread.

My point was that it seemed like you had some gotcha for Pride instead of the vague agreement that was announced hours ago. That agreement could go through and I don't really think it's a feather in LIVs hat. We really have no idea what it is.

Take this for what it is worth. ESPN.com had this on its front page when it broke earlier. They have taken it off of there. Given how recent this story is, it should be there at least until tomorrow morning, yet they have already relegated it to the golf section.

Do you really think they are going anywhere?

IDK, but if I left the PGAT on the premise I was to be guaranteed hundreds of millions of dollars, I sure as frick would be demanding to be paid as would pretty much any contract employee

I don’t think Bryson is going anywhere.

Hatton, Rahm, Niemmann, etc. got some figuring out to do.

This whole deal has turned into the Bryson show. The thing is trending to towards: HEYS GUYS WE’RE IN HONG KONG. FOLLOW ALONG AND SEE IF ANY OF THESE GUYS THAT COULDN’T GET ON ANY OTHER TOUR CAN BEAT ME

The death rattles of LIV are only getting louder. It is time to make peace with it.

I have a question:

If the players become majority owners, won’t they kinda be jsut paying themselves? Doesn't seem great Bob

The deal is with BC Partners' credit fund rather than their PE arm, so it may be structured debt and not equity.

They couldn’t make a profit in the last five with some of the best players in the game and international events.

The Corrupt Golf Media known as the financial times

Article says nothing about players demanding their money now. That was just from Swagga/NUCLR golf it seems

Obviously the players want to get the $ that they signed the contract for. Here’s the full context from article:

quote:

Several leading players, including Jon Rahm, are owed guaranteed payments worth potentially hundreds of millions of dollars under contracts that extend beyond this month, when the PIF has said it will cease funding the league.

The PIF is considering paying off those contracts at a discount to settle any potential liability as well as to avoid bad publicity, leaving the players positioned to sign fresh deals with the BC Partners-backed circuit that would include cash as well as equity in the new league, according to those close to the negotiations.

O'Neil in his public remarks confirmed that equity stakes would be a key selling point to players to convince them to stick with LIV, with the golfers envisioned as collectively owning a majority of the tour.

A settlement may come in the form of a pre-packaged bankruptcy where a court process could quickly cleanse legacy liabilities and allow new investment to come in free of any entanglements from the previous era, the people said.

"The new investors will need assurances that those players are not going to pursue any more money from the PIF and say, 'we got stiffed'," a person involved said of the discussions.

The last bit claims that the new investors want assurances that the players will no longer pursue money from their original contracts hence the push for PIF to settle their old contracts or do a bankruptcy settlement… which was the point of you starting this thread right?

Rahm has got to be playing the 'see how much I can get of that guaranteed money they promised me while not having to commit to staying in this shithole league' game.

What a racket all of this is.
