Today my group played great.

Our caps are 6,7,12,19.

We had 12 birdies. Finished 6 shots back.

We might could have been a stroke or two lower, but no way for us to shoot -18.

We were fifth place.

How low do your scrambles go?
Do teams stack scratch players?

This one had a one mulligan limit so we had 1 per player. We needed each of those shots.

People lie about their handicaps and lie about how many birdies they make. I don’t know why but they do.

If you don’t know what you’re shooting before you tee off, you got no chance

Do handicaps count or matter in a 4 man scramble? I don't remember ever using them.

4 man is usually around 12 under when I play. My team won the Hooters scramble 12 years ago with a 58. Somehow I think most were honest in that one. Normally winning score is ridiculous.

The charity ones where you can buy extra mulligans, red tee blast, etc. are where the most cheating occurs. Feel bad for the people who care about winnings those: the ones who care enough to cheat the hardest, and the ones who don’t quite care enough to be disappointed when they don’t win.

There are some scrambles that take handicap into account and add point for better golfers.

I’ve played in a few scrambles where -18 was legit in play and damn near needed to win, but subscratch and scratch golfer were captains and 2-5 were first round picks. I was a 2nd round pick at 12. Last round was 15+ but there are seniors in there who get to hit up front and play it down the middle. This was a buy in, not for charity, captains pick scramble.

I’ve also been in scrambles where -18 won it and the best player on the team was a 10. Charity scramble.

In Baton Rouge and surrounding areas, there's a Primerica team that makes the rounds and wins every scramble they play in. Last year at Pelican they carded 5 eagles and the rest birdies. Apparently they holed out on a par 4.

I played the UNO scramble with two guys who’d played collegiate golf/US Open sectionals, and a guy that works for Golftech. It was a legitimate -20.

One of the two mulligans we had was a missed downhill putt from 10ft. It was a non-makeable putt.

That's insane, you think those are legitimate scores?

Worst I've ever seen obviously cheating was a 4 man scramble team that turned in a 48.

im about an 11 handicap and the worst one on my team and we shot a 59. That's 11 strokes for those not counting at home.

We weren't expecting to win and out there for the good time but at the end of the day that has to piss you off.

Not at all. They beat a team who's worse player was a 2 handicap.

Typically in all the scrambles I play in you get one mulli per player on each 9. I often play with two 0's or even a +2, a 4, and then a hack that only contributes putting. Two of us average 300 off the tee which makes the par 4s a joke because you always play scrambles really short. We are almost always -10 on the par 4s and at an absolute worse we make birdie on every par 5. The key to shooting -18 or better is the par 3s. These will almost always be your longest iron shots of the day (not including second shots into par 5s). You birdie all of those and you will be at least -18.

What's bullshite is when you see a team with just one real good golfer shooting -16 or better. It takes two really good golfers to go -18 or better and the other two have to contribute.

A good indicator to see if their score is remotely possible is to look them all up in GHIN. If the guys on the team don't have a legit handicap then more than likely they are cheating their arse off. You will see them literally putt it until they make it on every green. There won't be any discussion about whether they should use a mulligan or not, they just step right back up in order and start firing away again.

-12 is very respectable, but so many teams cheat in those things.

Played in one where I saw a team literally throw a coin at least five feet closer to the hole to 'spot' the ball. Ridiculous.

I used to play in the Rich Mauti Tournament. Each team had volunteers to keep score and act as rules officials. I liked that approach, though I sure some bribery took place here and there.

Played in one a few weeks backyard Atchafalaya that the ‘winning’ team shot a 51. It was quite windy that day and they were like 7 strokes ahead of second place. I wish the organizer would separate the teams and make them recount the round.

Best I’ve ever been was at LSU were 17 under. No mulligans. Two young guys that could bomb it and then two 60ish older guys that were accurate from 100 yards in. Plus we rolled in several 20+ footers.

Typically my teams are 9-13 under if you are playing well though

Best I've ever done was -20. I played with two 10-15 handicaps and a guy that had played college and mini-tour golf. The good player could get us on all the par 5s in two.

scrambles are all about how many drink tickets, raffle tickets, and food you can consume.

too many teams cheat on their score to take it too seriously

Shot -18 a few weeks ago with 4 pars, but we also made a couple bombs. No HCP, and we probably had a 20 on the team but the course was under 6000 yds.

If you have one guy who can stripe it off the tee and then good wedge players, you’ll score well. I know it’s obvious, but 4 average putters are going to have a much better chance at making a 10 footer than good putters are at making a 20 footer. Need to put the ball close on your 2nd.

Shot 15 under and the orange festival tournament. 22 under won it. I walked away with longest drive and closest to the hole that's all that mattered to me.
