I should just quit now. God awful. As hard as I try I can’t keep from going over the top. Upper body just spins around more like a baseball swing. Guess I’ve adapted to it because I can get around the course in the mid 80’s. I’m not gonna get better off the tee like this though . Iron swing looks pretty good. Probably why I hit them much better consistently.

It's probably your set up more than anything. If you can find a set up at address that matches up with your natural swing, you may find something. It's possible that your set up forces your natural swing to come too OTT.

“reverse the loop” with Jess Frank.
It is 2 minutes.

I’ll link it.

I will never watch a video of my swing without my teaching pro with me. I know it’s not a great swing and I have a slight over the top tendency.

When I watch it alone, I have the same reaction as the OP. Then, I turn to YouTube for corrections and it all goes to hell in a hand basket.

Assuming you have a decent grip and takeaway, pause at the top of your backswing to get a feel for being patient instead of immediately throwing your hands/arms at the ball to start the downswing. Again though you may need to check your grip and setup first. A massive inside takeaway for example would make it so you almost have to come over the top to even make contact with the ball at all.

Thought my swing was decent. Saw it on film for 1st time with Ted Scott. Unbelievably awful.
He said....you have incredible hand eye coordination to be able to play as well as you do with a swing like that. Swing is much better now. But I'm scoring worse

This is why amateur golfers shouldn't obsess over swing plane. Plenty of really good golfers come over the top. Not everyone needs a lab built swing, especially if you're already playing good. I was a scratch golfer before I even knew what a swing plane was.

I played quality level golf nearly 40 years ago - saw a video of my swing in the late 80s and tried to make improvements

It destroyed my swing and game.

I went from a natural athletic swing that held up under pressure to a robotic technical swing that crashed at the first sign of exhaustion, stress, etc.

Yep. I’m going to take a break from the range . Just going to go play and try to not overthink it . I tinker with my swing too much .

Couldn’t agree more. I’ve played with 30 handicaps with the most beautiful swing there is and plus guys with horrific swings.

Swing your swing, figure out what works for you.

You're at a fork in the road. One path, you'll probably get a little better over time and enjoy the game. The other path can be a long, dark, frustrating, and expensive journey.

My advice: If you love the game and want to get better, find a reputable instructor in your area and stay away from youtube. Also, while the advice you receive here or on another anonymous message board may be correct in theory, it doesn't mean it applies to your swing. There are many reasons why you might be over the top and none of us can know what that is without seeing your swing. Any advice you take could potentially make you better, but it could also make you much worse. Good luck

Amen to that . YouTube is a rabbit hole of conflicting info for me. I started the game back again 2 years after a 20 year layoff. I’ve definitely gotten better. I need to stop overthinking it.

Try holding your back to the target longer. It helped me with OTT.

The worst thing I do for my game is video my swing. I start playing golf swing instead of golf.

You have to remember these Instagram swings are all at different angles and some are edited to show guys super shallow.

Some of the coaches on Instagram would change Scottie scheffler’s swing for the sake of being shallow.

Here's a tip that helped me. Use 3 alignment sticks, one just on the outside of the ball pointed at the target, one parallel to that at your feet, then take one and put it beside the one by the ball and angle it till it's pointing to 1 O'clock. Line up the toe of the club to the ball, take your right foot and move it back to the middle of your left foot. Swing the club on the path of the stick pointing to 1 o'clock. It helps make me feel like I have room to drop the club to the inside, it's helped me tremendously

First time I saw my swing on video I wanted to vomit. The second, third, and fourth time I saw it, I still wanted to vomit. Now I don’t record it and just play on.

I have the worst flip you’ve ever seen.
No matter how much I try to make it stop, when I see my swing on video, it never goes away. Sometimes fixing it is all I work on. All for nothing.
