I’m going to wait and see on this. My impression right now is the Saudis hung LIV out to dry and are done with it. LIV sounds like it’s going to remain its own thing.

At least that’s how I’m reading it right now.

The stakeholders in LIV are really going to be pissed at the Saudis for this.

The amount of time, passion and energy that people have given talking about this is mesmerizing.

Trump called this as usual.

PGA got cucked, as did Rory, again. Rory has been a cuck since 2012.

It’s the age old lesson of taking care of yourself and your family. The illusion of corporate loyalty is just that and always has been.

Sucks to suck for all those mid tier players that passed up a huge payday thinking the PGA actually meant something.

Well that’s part of my point. The Saudis don’t give a shite about Norman or anyone else who was invested in LIV. They got what they needed from the league and moved on.

The Saudis created and own 95% of LIV. LIV is the “baby” of the Saudi that negotiated this merger. Norman is mostly the hired public face of LIV. He isn’t the money behind it or the real decision maker.

I understand, I just think some people here have a much higher regard for LIV than even the Saudi’s backing it.

IMO LIV was the Trojan horse to get the Saudis what they really wanted, which is some stake in the PGA.

If LIV was extremely successful and going to start pulling guys like Rahm the Saudis never agree to the deal. They would have absorbed the PGA.

This deal enables them to dump the dead weight and still get their investment in golf with a much more established league.

^^^100% correct!

Which makes Rory’s comments even funnier. “LIV answers to Jay now!”

No you stupid mic frick, Jay answer to the Saudis now and so do you.

It was a dumb idea anyway.

All of golf is dead.

LMAO. PIF owns 93% of LIV. Al-Rumayyan is the boss of LIV.

This all day. Pride boy is arguing like he has a huge stake of money in proving the PGA "won". Fine the LIV players and pay the PGA players. That is my favorite short sighted opinion I've read from him as of late.

My $.02 is the PGA shot themselves in the foot. Players were complaining about things for years prior to the LIV becoming a thing. PGA thought they could squash it. They owned 100% of the PGA and now the Saudis have a seat at the table. The only losers in this were the fans, and it looks like the fans will once again enjoy a full field of the top players.

And the "clean" money vs. "dirty" money is laughable. Lord knows the US has tentacles into every country in the world. Sure the Saudis are more direct about it, but I don't buy that the US is "clean" by any stretch.

Thinks there still need to be some consequences for guys who left the PGA Tour. Said that Jay made that point in the meeting.

Think about the argument from the PGA Tour.

"You left the tour and joined LIV, the tour we just joined. But, if you want to come back, you will be fined."

At least I'm not the only one who thinks it.

It's definitely going to be different. Never thought I'd see Saudi's running the PGA Tour, but that's essentially what it's going to be.

There's going to be so much stuff that has to be worked out and I feel like it's going to take years.

Jay and the PGA are responsible for losing control. If they wouldn't have been so cheap for so long, just raking in money and not dispersing it to the players enough, Phil and others wouldn't have branched off.

DOJ approval needed too. So its not a foregone conclusion.

oh horseshite. You can't prove that. Phil would've bitched no matter how much the PGA paid him because he's a degenerate gambler with a tremendous amount of greed. How bout if Greg Norman wasn't such a count, he'd have let his grudge go and not brought the issue to the Saudis.
Then again, the Saudis would've probably gotten into golf anyway and the PGA couldn't outspend the PIF.
I think Jay deserves some criticism, but no matter how much the PGA paid players, they weren't gonna be able to hold off an entity like the PIF. And again, no matter how much some players get paid, they'd still bitch.

Everyone is incentivized to get the merger completed sooner rather than later. I don’t disagree that there appears to be a lot of moving parts and getting the details legally papered up seems like it will take a while, but I think they will find a way to get it done by the start of ‘24 season.

All it will really take is for the players to put their egos and hurt feelings about past comments and missed out money aside and an equitable agreement should be reachable. It's actually probably going to be harder to get all of the accounting straight, since the biggest change in this new system is a change in the way money moves from point a to point b within professional golf. The CPA's will be busy for the next year.

I think determining what guys are going back/allowed on the PGA tour will be settled. They are allowed to re-apply at the end of the year, I doubt that takes long for them to get their card.

I just mean certain formats. What LIV rules will be adapted into the tour, how OWGR will work with each tour, what new courses will be played, random stuff like that.
