LINK

Players now have 15 minutes to make changes on a scorecard after turning it in.

Now, can we please take the damn ball out of a fairway divot?

And make the corporate tents OB.

No more 21 minute multiple line of sight drops.

While I’d like to take out of divots, it would be too subjective. Some guys (we all know a few) would claim they they’re always in a divot. Might as well play “bump it in the fairway”.

I hate this argument. The guys who are going to abuse it are already bumping anyway. People will always abuse rules, but the rest of us shouldn’t suffer, because of them.

I care about how this applies to the pros. What you have to deal with when playing with your buddies doesn’t matter

These people are gonna take it out of a divot anyway, so who cares. Not wanting this rule in golf because amateurs aren’t gonna follow it is beyond stupid

I agree with you but It would slow the professional game down even more. If you are nopt playing in a competitive round/tournament just move the damn thing.

No. Golf is a lot like life. You can do everything right and still get shafted. Man up and hit your best shot.

Too much gray area for pros to bitch. Play it down.

Intuitively, I’ve never understood the argument for moving the ball from a divot. That’s the same as moving it out of a bunker or water in my opinion.

Even if you want to argue that “good shots should be rewarded” (assuming we’re talking about fairway divots only), says who? I’ve hit plenty of great shots that end up in bad places. I’ve hit plenty of bad shots that end up in great places.

I’ve also seen the argument for amateurs that we don’t play with caddies filling divots, so there’s disproportionately more of them that we have to avoid than the pros do. But I don’t buy that either - we also don’t play perfect greens like the pros do - surely you aren’t counting missed putts as makes when the greens are a little bumpy?

Also add in that the average amateur “unfairly” benefits from a lucky break on a bad shot (bounce off cart path/tree into the fairway) way more than they catch a bad break with a good shot resting in a fairway divot.

So I would bet the VAST majority of golfers (maybe literally all golfers?) are “ahead” in terms of luck.

Play it as it lies.

I’ve always found it bizarre how responsible the golfers are for officially keeping their own score in today’s PGA. Are there instances in non major tournaments especially with lower ranked golfers where no one official is near them on every hole to keep track?

I would add that I don't advocate for all golfers to play the ball down. It's hard enough and if you aren't playing for competition or money (or if you are, and everyone agrees), and it can make the game a little more enjoyable, then why not.

I'm simply against a carve-out rule for divots. Either play the ball down (everywhere), or don't.

1. The playing partner keeps the other player’s official score.
2. Shot link tracks everything.

So for Korn Ferry and up, it would be almost impossible to shave strokes.

Maybe at some $300 entry fee tournament it could happen, but it still would be hard to flat out report a 66 instead of a 67.

I have done shotlink a couple times (04/06 HP/Zurich using transits and palm pilots) and I know for a fact not everything got picked up. 04 rained and I was solo in 10green tower for a couple hours early am. Shot the fairway and green but no backup sheet. The walking scorer would be more accurate as far as strokes go. Imo.

The playing partners and caddies would need to be involved.

I don’t think scores are reported wrong purposely in high end golf tournaments.

There are interpretations of situations during play that may be uneven- like the time Tiger took a drop at the Players where he probably should have had to drop almost on the forward tee since his ball was over the hazard quickly.
