For those that are members of a golf course, how long is your travel time to the course?

I’m thinking about joining Oak Harbor in Slidell and I live in Mandeville. I play 5 times a week. Is the travel time of 35/40 minutes too much of a pain in the arse to play that often?

I was a member of Covington for 10 years and it was right around the corner, but that place is a unplayable right now.

Why not Tchefuncta or Beau Chene? I would definitely feel like that would be a pain in the arse 5 times/wk especially for basically a public course?

I’m about 20 mins from my club and I don’t mind the drive twice a week, but going over there just to putt and practice is a pain in the butt.

Tchefuncta is a $7000 initiation fee and with their cart plan it’s $715 a month. IMO, just not worth it.

Beau Chene is a $5000 initiation fee, I believe around $390 monthly fee and carts are $20 a round round. Playing 5 times a week that’s around $790 a month plus taxes.

Just more than I want to spend on golf.

I live a quarter of a mile from my club so I have nothing to offer other than it is very nice to be that close.

Kind of obvious point here but with how flat courses in LA are plus how many days are CPO why not just skip the cart and invest in walking? I’d rather walk on the hottest Louisiana summer day if it’s CPO. I don’t drink alcohol when I golf though. Plus the health benefits of walking probably make you money in the long run if that’s a concern. Sorry if you have a disability and can’t walk.

I'm a member of Millbrook in Picayune, and I live in east Slidell. It is a 20 minute drive at speed limit. Decent course with acceptable practice facilities. It is considerably less than Oak Harbor, and I don't mind the drive.

Live in Mandeville, member at Beau Chene. No way would I join any of the courses in Slidell.

Tchefuncte and Beau Chene are more than just golf and it's not just about a dollar to dollar savings for what you're spending in golf BUT if you're looking to save money, like Oak Harbor, are playing there anyway, dont like Royal, etc then do it if the math works.

I personally HATE Oak Harbor.

NO carts in the parking lot but no real drive thru club drop.
The clubhouse sucks
Pace of play sucks
Not one single bathroom on the course
No Cart girls
The carts are on life support
The tee boxes are not only terrible, they're put in just plane awful locations.

When you're green is protected by water and two bunkers you don't need to make the hole 180+ from the whites.

When you have a 442 pard 4, a green protected by a bunker on one side and water on the other, MOVE THE frickING TEE BOXES UP!!!

There are no good public golf courses in Slidell so you're going to get hackers out there and with no marshalls enforcing pace of play it becomes unbearable

If the course was $25 during the week and $40 on the weekend, okay. But for what they charge it's not worth even close to it IMO.

BUT, that being said, I don't have to like it for you to find value. If you like it and you're playing there anyway and the math works, go for it.

The only other option you may consider is Royal because even in Slidell, coming from Mandeville...it's significantly closer.

If I’m going to drive 30 minutes +, I’d join Diamondhead.

Great amenities, 2 great courses and a great value to join.

Covington has actually improved quite a bit and in a month should be very nice.

You know I live down the street and the riverfront bar makes it a little more palatable.

BC is less than $500/month if you chose to pay the $5k rather than $1k initially. Then you can do the math on cart fees. Driving to slidell 5 times a week to play golf sounds miserable.

Agree with this 100%. I’m walking distance to my club. The way they pour drinks I absolutely would wind up in jail.

15 minutes from work.
Maybe 10 minutes from home.

Proximity is a big draw for me.

100% agreed.

Our club did night golf last night.

If I didn’t live 800ft from the first tee, it could of been a very bad night.

Really. I played there about 6 weeks ago and it’s the worst shape I’ve ever seen it play.

About half of the greens were unplayable because of the dirt/lack of grass/potholes. Looked like they hadn’t took a weed eater to the place in years, trees still laying on the ground from hurricane ida and the fairways were just in bad shape.

Have they made some type of improvements where they actually put money into the course?
