May is here and frick this unAmerican lockdown. Golf courses all over are reopening. Some have goofy pool noodles in the hole, but we are playing golf. Shout out to all of the courses that stayed open during the lockdown.

75 w/4 birds today at Acadia National

Hit them long baws. Learn to hit them straight later

I played Oak Knoll National Golf Club of Hammond, America on Thursday. Home of the greatest par 3 in the world #4 where you have to use a mirror on a pole to see over the hill to the blind tee shot to make sure the green is clear.

That being said they had these pretty cool inserts in the hole which allowed you to putt but kept the ball from going down much more than about an inch. I was actually pretty surprised. Really neat.

No doubles for first 18
42/42 for 84

Played a bonus 9.
Had 43. One double.

My last hole was a 531 par 5. Heeled a driver, but it stayed between tree lines and got out about 206(weak), then I sort of half fatted a 5 wood to about 170, topped a six iron onto the green, two putted from 52 feet.

77 with 3 birdies at Santa Maria today. Now that they are back open, the course was barren. Far fewer people playing. Greens were firm and fast, and course dried out nicely from the 4 inches of rain Tuesday/Wednesday.

565s. The newer ones are 585s Most forgiving set, but plenty of ability to work it.

700 series is more of a players iron
900 blades- I hit one this week, they are sweet if you pure it.

A lot of guys will play the 500s in the mid/long irons and 700s in the scoring. Srixon makes a UDI that can be your 2, 3, and 4 iron.

When I got fit, I was stuck between the 700s and 500s and the mizuno JPX 900s maybe. The numbers and feel of the 500s were just too good. Also, it fit what I’m doing in my game. I don’t want to work it anymore. Give me a straight, long, forgiving club. I got them 5-GW and have a Srixon 4 hybrid. I plan on gaming them a long time.

I'm looking at the 700's but the 5's intrigue me as well. Which shafts did you go with?

Beaver Creek. Played 9 with my daughter riding along, so didn't really keep score.

Course was in good shape. Greens were a touch crusty, but rolled well.

It all depends what you are looking for. The 700s are going to let you work it way more than the 500s, but aren’t as forgiving. 500s are a little more bulky looking, but still have a players iron look. I can still work my 500s, but I can’t hit that giant sweeping cut anymore. Luckily, I haven’t needed it quite as much lately.

Walker 18 at Beaver Creek. 80. I've spent the lockdown playing Webb and City. Moving to faster greens was a shock to the system. Couldn't putt to save my life.
