Does anyone have any experience with these courses? They are sister courses to my home club in Houston and available to play for me.

I played Cypress Bend in March, and it is one of my favorite courses that I have played in Louisiana. Course was in great shape and the layout is really challenging.
I wish they would fix the resort part up a little more, but overall very good.

Cypress Bend has been in good shape consistently for a couple years now. One of the best courses in the state imo. Some good views of Toledo Bend

Mallard in LC is a links style course. It’s usually in decent-good shape. (I haven’t played in a while)
The wind can be brutal. What ever the forecast says in LC that day, add 10-15mph.

Didn't Cypress Bend almost get to goat ranch status a few years ago. What happened? Change of ownership? I used to play this course a ton when we were building pipelines up there between 2009-2012. It was a cool layout and I enjoyed playing it. Glad they are managing it better now.

That's what they say but I never played it when it was bad. I went ages ago and it was nice then a few years ago I went and it had just went through a couple million dollar renovation. Numerous holes have changed and greens were redone. Been back numerous times since then and it's been nice every time.

The LA Sabine River Authority has taken control of Cypress Bend, hotel, restaurant & golf course. It is the hope that they (through Sterling Golf) will be able to keep the golf course in it’s current condition (which is really good). The hotel & restaurant need a lot of work, but if the money they spent on the golf course ($6million is the rumored amount) is any indication of their desire for the property to succeed, then there’s a real chance.

Is the hotel really bad or just dated and in need of an upgrade?

The hotel's fine. The course is in great shape and as good a layout as there is in the state. Beautiful pc of property and good people running it. Go have a great time.

As others have said Cypress Bend is in phenomenal shape and has some great views looking back into the lake.

Cypress Bend doesn't even feel like Louisiana. Beautiful course and was in great shape albeit three months ago.
Stayed at the resort for a wedding. You can tell it used to be nice but could use renovations now. I've heard they have trouble finding staffing.

It's just a hotel that is nothing special. Not bad, but doesn't have a resort feel.
I stay in hotels in Monroe and Alexandria for tournaments and pay more for a room for a much worse hotel. Those two cities might be the worst two cities in the world for a hotel stay. $150-200 a night will get you an absolute turd of a room.

Well hotel prices in Monroe are up because of the workers in town for the META project. I think they actually come down on weekends when they don’t work.
