re: Liv and PGA to merge

Loser is the legacy of the PGA Tour. Now you have an illiberal theocracy wearing a once respected institution’s skin as a suit and demanding the same respect. Feels yucky. Never had a problem with LIV doing it’s own thing and Phil was absolutely right about compensation. Merger just feels gross. Glad the four majors and Ryder Cup and US AM are independently governed and hopefully less corruptable than the PGA Tour.

Yea this is a tough pill to swallow for so many people that spoke out harshly. He just said Phil can take a victory lap.

My whole thing about the compensation is that you they want to ACT like a private contractor. Set their own practice schedule, train when they want, play when they want, have they own medical staff, get their own sponsors, etc. but want the benefit of a team sport setup with guaranteed contracts.
I as a fan just want to see all the best golfers on the best courses.

Only way this can ever happen is that you have to way over pay to make it happen and that is exactly what they did.
It’s all relative. It is absolutely a win for them. I know to you it seems like a lot of money. But it doesn’t to them. This is the best case scenario for LIV.

Will we agree this is a big win for the tour? Or no?
A tour that had a complete monopoly 12 months ago? Is now merging with the blood money Saudis. Monohan screwed this thing from the beginning.

So I guess this means that Patrick & Justine Reed are coming back to the PGA Tour as well? Not sure if that's a win or a loss for the tour.

LIV Golf Presents The PGA Tour?

It's not all that complicated. The business model for all sides simply wasn't working. LIV thought they would get all of the top 50 and a big TV deal and little pushback from the PGA and DP World tours. None of that happened. The PGA Tour got all it could get money wise from its sponsors and it wasn't near enough to compete financially with the deep pockets of LIV. The DP World Tour lost too many members to LIV. They were destroying each other; they had to merge.
This is like the Sirius and XM Satellite merger from years ago. Apart they were dying. Together they will survive.
The winners will be the LIV players. While their money will more than likely scale back to something more reasonable, they cashed in when they could. The PGA will have to do something to satisfy their players but that can be made to happen. There's gonna be a lot of complaining in the meantime, though. (Maybe this is the reason Rory stopped running his mouth the last few weeks; he knew this was coming)
The loser is Greg Norman. I think he will be the odd man out on all this. He wanted to drive the tours out of business and sold the Saudis on a false bill of goods to achieve this. The Saudis want to make money and look good. They will make their money now.
I agree with a lot of this outside of the Greg Norman part. You couldn't be any farther off. Of anybody involved in this entire ordeal, he will feel the most vindicated. What he has pushed for for 30 years is now happening and he was the driving force. Also, just from a money perspective, do you think he was CEO of LIV for free? His pocket is loaded.

Getting billions in funding and majority control of the board seems like a really good “out”
As opposed to paying hundreds of millions and being exposed for whatever they might be hiding...absolutely.
Tell me, without the lawsuits, do you think the PGA Tour is even entertaining going into business with LIV?

Like you say, LiV has endless money. They could have continued to fight the PGA forever from a money standpoint. Now, at least Jay gets billions out the deal and voting majority on the board
The PGA executives and management, made out like bandits. And the liv players(depending on the fine amount to return) will have made out like bandits too

I just don't find it very impressive is all. LIV has an endless amount of money and was able to use that money to way over pay to make a merger with the PGA. Going to bet they paid way over market value.

I think from the other end, the zero tv or real fan interest played the biggest part for the LIV leaders to make a deal.

Who knew we had a real life Succession style corporate takeover battle playing out behind closed doors right as the series was ending?
Monahan is Tom. WayStar is PGA Tour. PIF is GoJo. Yasir is Mattson.

All that virtue signaling by PGA and Golf media over dirty Saudi money gone like a fart in the wind. Once the PGA got their cut right. Same reason big companies suck China’s dick

The PGA was certainly scared of the discovery process conducted by a legal opponent with unlimited funds.
I thought Brooks handled his media scrum after his recent PGA Championship with much class, I assume he knew something was in the making. However, his early morning tweet was super hilarious:
"Welfare check on Chamblee."

They could say we get our players back and we get billions. But since they harped on “evil devil money” for so long, they now look weak and petty publicly.

So, you preach loyalty to a tour and convince guys not to take 8 and 9 figure deals based, in part, on that loyalty and, in part, on the source of the money. Then those guys find out on Twitter YOU took the very same money
Yep. Anyone spinning this in favor of the PGA Tour needs to reevaluate their thinking. They caved because they were going to lose in court. They bashed players that exited and in the end they crapped on those that were loyal to them.
