I’d happily buy drinks for everyone in my group. Would never even entertain the thought of buying for anyone else outside of that

I would vote Dumb AF. None of it makes sense. I make the greatest shot of my life and now I'm paying for 4 drinks every round instead of the other 3 guys in the group splitting the cost of my drink every round?

Our usual group has a standing policy that if anyone in the group makes an ace, he buys a meal at Ruth's Chris for anyone present. I've yet to buy steak, but I've eaten free steak.

Now that I think about it, I have only seen 1 hole in one in person. We were on our annual golf trip. So, there were 8 guys in the group. We didn't let the guy buy us drinks. Instead, we bought his and paid for his dinner.

Probably made more sense when people were drinking .25 Shlitz beers at the club house instead $8 miller lights

At a lot of clubs, you get a hole in one pot or winnings. That's supposed to be used to cover the bar tab.

If you aren't getting any money from anyone, it's dumb.

For sure all for it. I usually buy a round of beers on the course anyway, might as well take a hole in one with it.

The way it should be done.

At my age, I difficulty remembering every shot everyone hit on the course, a cold beer really jogs my memory though

Our club has a monthly pot that everyone, who joins, puts $5 into. When someone makes a hole in one, that pot pays the tab less 20% tip to the tenders. In my short membership, we've had two. First pot was about $8k and on a football Saturday, I think he actually owed a little at the end.

The other was a much larger pot because he made it sometime in Feb and it was a brutal fall/winter and the greens went dormant really early, so hardly any play. That pot was about $18k with roughly 8-10 people on the course. He walked with maybe $17k in credits on his account.

I am all for this setup, where a club has a hole in one pot that kind of acts like an insurance policy vs someone having to cover an enormous bar tab. If you don't join the pot, sucks if you make one and have to foot that bill. I know some members would be ruthless and order the entire stock of Silver Oak.

Note: I wasn't playing with either of them but read about it through our men's golf newsletter

My biggest fear in life is getting a hole in one on a random late afternoon when I’m playing alone.

Mine is being locked in a room with no way out and knowing I will starve to death.

8k bar tab for 1 day? That’s over 500 drinks at $15/per, Sounds like assholes decided to order double pappy 15 shots since someone else was paying.

I’ve done it 5 times.

Was too young the first 4.

Would be happy to do it again, been stuck on 9 for 15 years now.

Our regular 4some has a standing rule that if any of us make a hole in one the other 3 pay him $1 for every yard of the shot. The person who made the hole in one then has to pay for a steak dinner. Has to be with the 4 of us playing together

My nephew is one of the 4 and he was playing with some other friends last weekend and made his first one from 175 yds

My group and anyone at the club bar once the round is done so long as it's not some kind of huge event (bingo, trivia, etc).

Beers or basic cocktails, I'm not buying Blantons a random but don't have an issue celebrating with others at the bar for a drink.

There's some people who take it way too far like they have to outdo each other. I've got a buddy who bought a drink for everyone on the course one one of his and, our club has two courses. His bill was over $2k by the time he got done AND that was his 4th ace.

He's got the cash and doesn't mind having fun with it but call me a cheapskate, I'm not doing that
