Have you ever witnessed a hole in one?

I am not talking about one you've hit yourself or seen on TV. I am asking about one hit in your foursome.
What's the story? Was it a purely struck shot like the pros? Or was it a blind squirrel type of thing?
Quite a few of my golf buddies have hit a hole in one, but I was never in the same foursome.

I've seen two. It's a pretty wild feeling seeing the ball fall.. roll a second or two, and just disappear.
The two I have witness were by average players, 10-12 handicaps, and was each their first ones. So it was kind of cool.
I am still waiting on my first one..

Closest I've been is right behind a 3-some. The actual hole wasn't clearly visible from the tee so the guy didn't actually know until he got to the green and looked in the hole. We were just getting to the tee after them when they all kinda screamed.

I just posted this in the other hole-in-one thread...
I once played golf with a guy that had just started. Like the guy had taken a couple lessons and hd played one 9-hole round in the previous month. We are halfway through the back 9. We are on a decent little par 3, about 165 from the tees we are playing. Ole boy pulls out his driver and proceeds to hit a worm burner that may be carried 80 yards. His ball takes the curves of the hill and finds the green, then follows the curves of the green like a putt, and falls in the hole. Uglies shot I have ever seen with one of the best finishes I have ever witnessed.
TL;DR: guy plays his first 18 hole round, uses his driver to putt from the tee box, and proceeds to shame the two guys he was playing with that have been playing their whole lives.

About a year ago, one of the guys i golf with aced one from about 155. Pretty small green with a front center hole location. Hit it a little long and spun it back right into the cup. It was beautiful.

"Saw" one this past Wednesday. The hole isn't visible from the tee so it was one of those where you don't know it happened until you pulled up to the green.
I still have zero.

quote:Similar story. Late in the evening and our group was nothing but guys 50 and over. A guy in my foursome hits a high fade with a 5i on 18 at the links. I have the best eyes in the group, and I tell the guy it probably went in. I mean, there was really nowhere else it could be. He is thinking it went over the back, but given the slope of the green and the high fade, there was no way the ball was over. It was in.

Saw one a few years ago at the wetlands in lafayette. The hole had a trap in front of the green that you couldn't see over to see the cup and a lake behind the green. We didn't know it was in until we walked up to the hole. He dunked it and left half a ball mark on the holes edge with the dirt in the bottom of the cup with the ball. It was really cool to me but the guy who hit it already had 3 before so he wasn't as pumped up.

Oh, and I've seen 4 in disc golf. One was mine.

20ish. 9 of them were mine.
I've played a lot of golf over the years with good players.
Only seen 3 double eagles. One of them won a tournament for the guy who made it on the last hole

3 or 4, other than the 2 I've made.

That was how my one and only HIO happened. Of the two par 3's on the front nine of the course I grew up playing on, I consistently hit the first green, lipped out a couple times and hit the flagstick at least once. I almost never even ended up on the green on the second. Hell it was more common for me to end up in the water than on the green on the second par 3.
Well this one day (I was 13/14) playing with my dad and a couple of his friends I flushed a 9i from 165 out. The ball landed 2 feet in front of the hole, jumped 3-4 feet past it, and spun straight back into the cup. I was floored. If it wasn't for my dad and the other guys hollering, I may still be there just staring at it, not believing my eyes.
Luckily for me, I went right back to where I was after that round, and still almost never hit that damn green.

Watched two guys that were probably 15-20 handicaps in the group in front of me make back-to-back aces. One guy hit green and it rolled probably 20 feet and in. Of course the next guy hit it 10 yards left, hit a huge mound, and it funneled down into the hole.
They were pumped and I was excited for them. Then I remebered Id never made a hole in one.

But did he use his own club?

I was in a group in my normal dogfight with about a 20 hdcp. He hit a 5 hybrid about 165 bounced once and then in. He said it was his 5th. I got a share of the hole in one pot

Witnessed an ace on a par 4 in a scramble -- downhill shot that is blind from the tee so two of us rode up to see if the green was clear for a senior to hit from the senior tee. I believe it was about a 280 yd shot (all downhill) that hit about 40 yards short of the green and tracked all the way to the hole. Within a month the course added a bunker across the fairway about 45 yards in front of the green.
Also witnessed a "Couples" ace when a good play topped on off the tee into the water. He hit another and said "that's par" just after impact . . . and damned if it didn't one-hop into the hole from about 180 yards.
Witnessed my 8 year old daughter hit one in a father/child scramble. Not only did she hit one before I did, but she hasn't played since then ( about 7 years ago), but I've hit two since then.

Somehow, I had a strong feeling you may have witnessed one.

yep, in a foursome at Stonewater in Highland Hts Oh....a friend, probably a 10 cap, never uses a tee on par 3's, walks up on tee box,161 yds, pulls out his 7i, drops ball on ground, smooths it within 3 feet and softly rolls in the cup...very exciting, sadly the highlight of my golf time.....although I did hole out from 78 yards last week for a nice birdie.
