Whats your range line-up from start to finish?

I usually warm up with my 56 then jump up a club or two and hit 5-10 balls working all the way to the driver.

So something like this: 56, 9, 7, 5, 4,3H, 3&5 W, to Driver. Then, back down to a couple select clubs I want to work with.

Standard range session:

Stretch, weighted club swings, get loose

3 ball warm up with 52 degree
4 balls each with 56/PW//8I/6I/4I
6 balls with 4W - 3 off the dirt and 3 teed
8 balls with Driver
*Use alignment sticks and some video to make sure everything is on track

10 - 20 balls for drilling on whatever I’m working on - typically with 6I and Driver

I then play 18 holes of a course in my head with full swings
*I try to shape shots, visualize ball flight, all that

10 - 20 balls for more drilling

Finish up with a few more balls of whatever I want to hit at that moment

I have a separate session that I do for wedge work that involves towels or just visualization if I can’t lay towels out:

8 balls each for the following - 7:30/9:00/10:30 each for 60, 56, 52, and PW (so about 100 balls) and get those twelve distances down sharp.

3 iron
8 iron
60* or 56*
6 iron
Driver
PW
3 wood/ Hybrid

I tend to jump around a good bit. Sometimes the 8 will be a 9 or the 6 could be a 5. The only constant is the 3 iron start. A few easy swings to get loose.

I usually start with longer irons to avoid chunking the ball with 1st few wedge shots

I start with a 9 iron, then 7, Hybrid, Driver then to the SW for chipping.

I don't carry a 4 or 5 iron any more, just a 4 hybrid and grip down if needed.

Chip a few. Steal a few from Malvin’s bucket, bang a few 7is until it’s flying right, hit 1 maybe 2 drives. Crack a cold one, putt, play.

Few 8’s, 6’s, and Drivers , 6-10 putts on the putting green and roll, if I even hit a ball, usually just roll a few and go.

Couple wedges to loosen up, maybe some long extended dead flops.
Handful of full swings
Then odds or evens only up to 6 or 5 iron.
3 wood off ground
3 wood off tee
Driver
Hit all until I hit 3 in a row the same or am comfortable with the shape.
First tee.

Warm up: PW and focus solely on hitting a 120-130 target.

Once I’m dialed in:

7iron: 5 shots
5iron: 5 shots
Hybrid: 5 shots
3W off the tee: 5 shots
D: 5 shots
3W off the ground: 5 shots

The rest are focused on wedge game 80-120

3 ball drills on the putting green with 58.

3 ball drills with putter

Shouldn’t take longer than an hour.

Hardly - I played at a damn high level at one point and know what it takes to get there again. Father time and marriage will nick at those hours, but I assure you I know more than most at how to get good at this game.

I still have about a low single digit handicap, and I maybe play once per month. I have a high school teammate and AJGA friend who is one of the best players in the world right now and a major champion. I have another high school teammate who was one of the top-ranked players in his class and played at probably the best program in the SEC. Another teammate played at Wake Forest. Another teammate played at Ohio State. So on and so on.

Are you here to learn or just be a dipshit?

I don't play but do instruct from time to time. Usually women because they have more patience. I start them off with low to mid irons, then get em the woods later. :rimshot:

I often go with just 2-3 clubs for swing mechanics focus.

Normally a 5 or 6 iron, a PW, and a wood.

Start with a 54 swinging about 75% to get loose and find the center of the face. Then hit about 5-8 full shots with it. Then:

5-10 shots with an 8i
5-10 shots with a 3 or 4i
5-10 shots with the driver
Back to the 54 for 5 shots.

Sometimes I'll bring my 60 up to work on 75 and in otherwise, I'll just head to the chipping/putting green. If it's really hot I'll take a water/inside break after the range before I putt/chip.
