He also was never that good of a ball striker. He just putted and chipped his mind off for three years.

This just isn't true. The years he won majors, he was one of the best iron players in the world. He was #10 in SG Approach in 2015 and #2 in 2017.

I’m glad someone called it out. Spieth was an electric ball striker when he was playing well. Spieth doesn’t have one single thing that has caused his issues. He’s had injuries, he hasn’t been as devoted to the game, he’s made some pretty ridiculous swing changes, and it seems that the Master choke has caused some demons. Spieth is an amazing athlete and has taken all the athleticism out of his game.

Spieth relied on miracles from his short game and lucky breaks for his 3 years of success. It was never sustainable

Of that set (putting Jordan beside), only Rory, Hideki, Adam Scott, Reed, and Rose are still playing world class golf week in and week out,

Certainly would add Day and Rickie to the list. Both are playing 20ish events per year and making the majority of their cuts. And some of those have just naturally aged out.

His peak golf isn't the same as it used to be. The competition is stiff but it's safe to say his game has taken a step in the wrong direction, not just competition getting better.

Anecdotally, sure, but statistically that wasn’t true.

Sounds familiar

Agree with this completely and about his previous iron play.

Hovland gets all the publicity for firing coaches etc but I think Spieth is probably second on the list for tinkering over the years.

He needs a Bagger Vance come to Jesus moment or something. Still early but looks like its the same thing year after year.

The rate at which he was making the 10 - 20+ footers, especially in critical situations, when he was at his peak was unsustainable

That bent elbow at impact was doomed from the start. Wild how he got what he got out of that horrid swing.

Got married. Same as Ricky Fowler and Justin Thomas. None of these three have been close to the same since marriage.

Never seemed the same after his blow up on 12 at Augusta. He won the Open after that, but it jus seems that, kids, injuries, etc took their toll on him.

I honestly think he's just way more mental now. You never used to see him have these mini little blowups after almost every single shot. Wish he could figure it out one day. I don't hold out much hope however.

He was the best putter ever for that run, his swing was always iffy. Just caught up with him.

lucky breaks

Spieth was lucky as hell. Could easily have just one major.

DJ flat out gifted him the U.S. Open. Kuchar really was more deserving to win the Open at Birkdale.

Is there a database of married versus single major winners??

Jack was married for all of his professional majors.

If Jack had been single, would he have won more?

There are probably the same number of great players on tour now than in 1980, but the number of really good players is through the roof. The group of potential major champions is deeper today than even 20 years ago.

How does his fall compare to David Duval?

Duval virtually disappeared.

Jordan finished about 10th in the last few weeks.

Golf is hard.
