Do you notice that almost all little kids naturally grab the club switch handed?

What I mean is that a right handed kid will usually grab the club with his left hand low, and a left-handed kid will naturally grab the club with his right hand low
Like this

I’m assuming it’s just easier for them to hit it that way, I’m talking about young kids who have never been taught how to play, like a 2 or 3 yr old. I just thought it was interesting, is it easier to hit the ball like that? When do they learn to switch their hands? I’m assuming once they are old enough to be taught, do you think learning cross handed first hurts them in the long run?

I’m basing this on watching several kids pick up a plastic club and swing, all of them put their weak hand low.

True right handlers should be swinging “left handed”

What does that have to do with what I said?

There was a guy on Big Break a few years ago that hit everything cross handed. He was pretty good. I think he ended up 2nd or 3rd.

I remember that. I actually played with a guy who hit cross handed a few years ago.

He wasn’t incredible or anything but he hit the ball well, shot in the low 80’s

Mine did that some. Also throws right handed but wants to swing a bat left handed. Just gonna let him swing his swing.

Kids I am talking about were between the ages of 1-4, I don’t think there is really any point in trying to “fix” anything they are doing, at that age it’s just good they are enjoying hitting a ball with a club

Nah fix that. It’s wrong and they’ll gravitate towards it.

I have coached First Tee for 10 years. The 7-9 year olds usually get it correct. The only ones that grab cross-handed are the ones that are still figuring out if they are right handed or left handed. Just my experience.

You honestly think you could “fix” a 2 year olds grip?

My son has been playing since he was 2. Grip was all I was able to teach him. He’s been interlocking his whole life.

He’s also right handed and swings lefty.

My kid does this. He just turned 3 and swings cross handed. How he makes contact like that I don’t know but for a 3 year old he can rip it. I have tried to correct him but he doesn’t really understand.

Your kid naturally knew how to write with a pencil or crayon?

I’m not talking about my kid, but how many 2 year olds have you seen draw? They don’t exactly have what I would call “perfect form”
