Prices for beers and other items at the tournament began circulating on social media Monday and raising eyebrows. A Michelob Ultra costs $18, while a Stella Artois costs $19. Cocktails are also $19, and a glass of wine will run you $13. Water is $6, and food ranges from $8 to $16.
quote:

When asked about it on Tuesday, [Justin] Thomas elaborated on his point and added that players had been discussing the prices. "I was blown away," Thomas said. "... You want people to come to the tournament. If I'm on the fence and I'm looking at the concession stand, that's not the greatest thing."
quote:

Kerry Haigh, PGA of America chief championships officer, said Tuesday that the tournament's concessions pricing is "sort of comparable to stadium events" and that the organization is comfortable with where they are. He also explained that they are trying a new model of ticketing where fans attending rounds of the event starting Thursday can eat as much food and drink as many nonalcoholic drinks as they want for the price of their ticket.

Tickets for Thursday's first round are listed on the PGA Championship website for $195 plus fees. According to the site, tickets for Friday, Saturday and Sunday are sold out.

"At the end of it we'll go back and, like we always do, try to figure out if it worked or didn't work and what we can do better and raise the bar," PGA of America CEO Seth Waugh said. "It's not unique to sports but it's unique to us, so we're giving it a shot, and hopefully people love it. That's the idea."

Pretty bad look considering the current climate and players calling the PGA greedy. I also don’t understand the quote in bold. If the price of the ticket is $200 plus fees, they want you to pay double that for what amounts to a bad buffet that doesn’t include alcohol? And people are supposed to love it? Or is he saying good and water is included in the ticket pricing and all people have to pay for is alcohol?

The beers are 25oz. Still not cheap, but comes out to about $8 for a "regular" sized beer. Still high but not insane.

Colonial did this last year, but it included beer and wine as well. Your ticket includes concessions so all you have to do is walk up and tell them what you want. I loved it as it moved the lines really fast.

"I'll take a hot dog and a beer." They hand it to you and you're done, no slowing down the line with some dumbass who's not ready to pay.

Its going to be 109 heat index. I wonder how quickly those go down… or how quickly they become warm and undrinkable.

Not Saturday and Sunday. I'm going Saturday and keep checking the weather forecast every time I walk outside here in Houston. I cannot wait. My brother in law bought our tickets over a year ago. I have no idea if we have this concession deal or not. If we do, I can go without beers on a 60 degree day when I get the chance to watch the best in the world.

My bigger problem is with the ticket prices given how many big boys won't be playing

Not sure I would've paid $200 a pop for Scottie sheffler and company to be top billing

Who isn't playing other than Phil and maybe Bryson due to injury?

The top 19 players in the world are playing. Sungjae Im is the highest ranked player that is missing the event.

I wonder how much this has to do with last year being a shitshow. Which had more to do with people busting out post covid and it being in a vacation town.

With $18 beers and i am flasking some booze into it.

It's a real banner week for the PGA.

Very stark contrast from the British Open where tickets are around $120 and you can bring in a cooler with food and drinks.

The PGA tour has basically lost one of its greats in Phil.

PGA of America is getting hammered for concession prices by its rising star (JT)

Both PGA T and PGA A don’t have the reigning PGA champion in Phil playing the flagship major event.

Who gives a flip if Phil is playing? No one is basing a trip to a tourney if Lefty plays anymore, especially in a Major. People are going regardless.

Clickbait

These come out in line with most major sporting events per oz. PGA of America is not the Masters and cannot subsidize concessions.

No nfl analogy is good. Not even close to the same type of league. But a more accurate one would be if the rams decided to leave the NFL right before they were about to play in the Super Bowl. Would that be a story?
