Claude and Golf

Don't know the overall temperature around here about AI, but I'm in IT and we got a team plan for Claude at work. Once I started using it, I got a feel for what it can do. Then thought, could it get me to scratch in golf?
I started feeding it everything. Every round I had on record, every sim session, my full bag with every club, shaft, grip, etc. It immediately identified a few things off the bat, I was playing the wrong driver shaft, and what was costing me the most strokes. It recognized I had an early extension problem also helped me go from ~100 mph driver speed to 111 on the top end with a 108 average. It started spitting out practice plans to work on path and face to target. Then hammering various distances like 75 or 85 yards. It grades every practice to tell me what the weak link is.
It eventually evolved to build me a course log artifact that basically replaces the Grint or similar. The advantage is its personnel to me. It knows my swing better than anyone, knows my misses, my tendencies, which clubs and swing lengths has the best dispersion, I'm talking splitting hairs.
I open it on my phone, give it temp, wind etc.. then as I play I tell it what the distance to the pin is and it tells me exactly what shot to hit based on the elevation, the green elevation, Green size, and the wind. If it has multiple, it'll pick the one I'm best with based on my dispersions. It'll also say aim 5 yards left of the pin or at the front bunker on the right. After each round, it reads the data back in to tell me what cost me strokes that round and what to improve on or identify problem holes on a regularly played course and work out a different strategy for the next round.
I've used it a few times now and shot 72, 75, 71. It's pretty damn incredible. The first time I used it, I wouldn't' believe the club suggestions, like no way I need to hit this 85-yard shot for 73 yards and sure enough, pin high.
Not scratch yet, but it's a pretty fun experiment and is keeping me grinding.

I'm interested in trying this. I've used gpt the last few weeks to develop a meal plan and I've enjoyed fine tuning things. Golf would bey natural next venture.

Why not create an app with it as the agent so this isn’t all manual and uses the current behaviors of golfers. Then sell it.

Looked into this, i don’t have the infrastructure right now, would need a Mac to write an iOS app and it would be tied to the Claude api which has a per use cost like .05 per call against it. What I’m doing is free. That odd the next evolution though, then i wouldn’t need to tell it anything, it could pull weather and precise location.

Use a cheaper agent. Deepseek is significantly cheaper per token.
Edit: since you say you're in IT, you can build out the app on Windows, and then spin up a MacOS VM to compile and push

I have the Claude app on my phone and am too dumb to figure out how to do this
I use it to build simple stuff for work but this would be cool to test out.

I've used chat to help with my swing. I've uploaded my swing with numerous clubs and all my data, shot shape, typical misses, what irons, woods, shafts, lofts etc. It helped with some swing tips for sure that I use on each range session and fixed a miss I was having with my irons. Definitely a handy tool.
Hopefully you're doing this when you're playing by yourself
I feel like this might be too dependent and taking away from things you should naturally be able to work out in your head and not need AI for.

Sorry man but at that point just go play a damn video game.
Isn’t half the point of golf to get away from the screens and the AI? You really need an algorithm to tell you what to hit?

It’s just helping with the adjustments. Especially wind and green elevation. Most people in play with don’t even realize I’m doing anything. My phone is already on the magnet on my bag so when I’m picking club i put it in. It takes me 20 sec.

Claude said it needs to be written in swift on xcode and required a Mac. Anthropic just added Api credits to our plan so I’m about to start hunting a Mac mini.

Hopefully you aren’t playing in tournaments or for money, because this is 100% cheating. It sounds really neat for practice rounds though.

Cheating? How so?
Arccos attempts to provide the same, personalized club selections. Many apps do. This is more tailored. Closer to having a caddie who truly knows your game. If this is cheating, so is a range finder. Data is data. How and when we use it is up to the player.

Are you under the impression you can use arccos in tournament rounds?

Tournaments where the slope isn’t allowed probably wouldn’t allow this. Guys betting in their group, I see no problem at all. That’s what I was referring to. Idk a club tournament where they make people turn off slope and say you can’t use apps. Do you?

Yes

Rules sheet say range finder and slope is allowed but no other devices

So which clubs? Only the lga has said anything about devices and they don’t allow slope either. That’s in tournaments I’ve played in. No club tournament has mentioned device use. Maybe I’m the outlier. Still don’t see an issue with the OP using it in his normal rounds even if he’s betting. And I definitely wouldn’t call it cheating unless that rule is in the sheet.
