I'll sign up for Paramount for this. I highly recommend the book. I've actually read all of Coyne's books. They are all good, but Ireland stands above the rest.

I just returned from Ireland on a two week golf trip. It was so amazing. Been on golf trips to England and Scotland twice, Ireland is probably my favorite. We didn't do the southern courses that most Americans play, we started up in Port Stewart and went around the north and down the west coast. We visited a lot of cool towns and lots of bars. Among the courses we played were, Castlerock, Port Stewart, Port Salon, Ballyliffin, Nairn and Portnoo, County Sligo, Donegal, Rosapenna, Enniscrone, Carne and Conamarra.
Tom and Bill have a great YouTube video about Ireland. Its worth the watch

My buddy used to work the cart barn at Grand Cypress in Orlando back in the day. Said Bill Murray would roll up unannounced in a 65 Cadillac convertible with his clubs in the backseat, wearing a Masters caddy jumpsuit and play 18 by himself. He never made a big deal or asked for anything special when he was there, just walked in, paid for his round, and dropped $100 tips on everyone who helped him.

Nice - of these, I've only played Ballyliffin (we usually play Portrush then 1-2 others when we go). Which of the others was your favorite?

This is cool to read and I'm glad you had a great trip.
I did my first golfing trip to Scotland back in August. Everything about the trip - people, places, cities/towns, resorts, countryside, golf courses, even the weather - was outstanding. Went with 15 buddies from my club and we're planning another trip next year, this time to Ireland, so I enjoyed your post.

Carne was an incredible experience. All were great except Narin and Portnoo. If I had to rank them, it would be Carne, Port Stewart, Rossapena St Patrick's, County Sligo, Ballyliffin, and the others.
Sligo and Westport were really awesome towns. Went to Scotland last year and going again next year. I would say the Scottish courses are slightly better, but the towns and pubs in Ireland were slightly better. It's a toss up really. Doing Carnoustie, Kingsbarns, Dumbarnie, Berwick, Panmure, hopefully Old Course, Royal Aberdeen and Cruden Bay in 2027.
Anyone that wants a great place to stay for a large group of 12-20 guys, look into the Carlogie House. That's where we stay and it's the perfect guys trip location. It's a mile from Carnoustie and gives you access to a dozen or more top 15 courses within an hour and a half. Cost us about $1000 per man for the entire week. Most courses you can book by just emailing the course 6-12 months in advance. Our trip all in for 10 days is gonna run us about $8000.

A client of ours hosted an annual golf tournament in SC with proceeds going to charity. I played once. Bill Murray played every year. They sold 50/50 raffle tickets and after the round, they would pick something like 25 tickets. If your ticket was picked, you would meet Bill and he would hit a drive. Whoever’s ball he hit the furthest was the winner. I was picked and he shanked mine. Nice guy for the 10 seconds we talked.

That's incredible - you looking to adopt?
Played Kingsbarns this summer. Absolutely amazing. My buddy said it perfectly - "it's like Pebble Beach and Old Course had a baby"
Ps...played Old Course (via lottery) the afternoon before Kingsbarns. Not sure I'm ever going to top that 24 hours

What are the chances we can talk you into sitting down and doing a review with photos and post it on here? I am working towards an Ireland trip in the next two years. I definitely want to do the west coast and hop around but I don't think I will be as ambitious as your itinerary. Would really like to cherry pick from yours though.

I would love to help you out. I've set up several trips for my golf group in the past. The biggest challenge I have found is getting a bus and driver for your trip. This trip was 14 days, but we had a day off in between day 6 and 7. Most courses in Ireland do have golf carts, unlike Scotland. We took caddies and walked four of the rounds, but the other eight, we took a cart with a forecaddie. If you want, shoot me a DM and I can send you the itinerary of what we did and which towns we stayed in, along with pics. We moved from town to town about every two days, but our driver allowed us to keep our clubs on the bus overnight, so it wasn't that much of a hassle.
I definitely would recommend trying to do Scotland and Ireland on your own rather than paying a golf tour operator. It's fairly easy to request tee times at most any course with just a simple email. The bus company we had was awesome, and our driver was on time every day. The bus was a brand new bus that accomidated the 12 of us easily as it held 40 passengers, with plenty of room for clubs and luggage underneath.

Just realized you can't DM on this site. Testing out posting an image. This was our bus.
