Putter counts as a club.

3w
7i or 7h. Having trouble on this
SW. having trouble on picking a wedge also.

There's a club around here that does a few 3 club tournaments a year that I want to do this year.

I think they consider the putter a freebie though.

Strict three club I go:
3 hybrid
8 iron
putter

Driver
56*
Probably 6i or 7i

Anything less than a 6 or 7 club challenge, I'm putting with a wedge. I don't make any putts of distance anyway, and I can top spin/ thin a wedge and be just fine.

And driver over 3w all day. You get more distance, bigger head (easier to hit) and going off the deck with a driver and 3w aren't enough if a difference to justify the loss of yards and loss of forgiveness for the other holes. How many times are you going to go 3w 3w in a round anyway.

I'm not sure that driver isn't the better choice than 3 wood:

Driver will provide a major advantage on the par 4s (the majority of holes) being significantly longer off the tee. Given what we know from analytics (decade etc), people score better the closer they are to the hole and there is rarely a good reason not to hit driver from the tee. So you are gaining a big advantage on 10 holes.

I could see the argument that 3 wood gives you an advantage on the 4 par 5s, but it's unlikely you are going to reach in 2 with 2 3 woods, so at best its likely only a small advantage with 3w/3w/wedge vs Driver/7i/wedge(or maybe 7i).

I would go driver, mid iron (probably 7 or 8, depending on the length of par 3s) and a 52.

What tees?

If it’s from the red like most of these are, it should be driver and like 9i/SW. A 7 iron does zero good

Hybrid
Sand Wedge
Putter

I've played in a lot of these over the years.

Best thing about the Hybrid is you can get decent distance off the tee and you can bunt it down the fairway.

Well that definitely makes a difference. Didn't know they were normally played from the reds.

Actually did one of these with my buddies a couple weeks ago.

I went with

3 wood
8 iron
56° wedge

Putted with the wedge and made a couple of 12+ footers. Hit a bunch of 3 and 4 footers no problem.

3 wood off the tee worked just fine on the course we played. I could have gone with driver, but my rationale is that I sometimes bump a 3 wood around the greens when the lie is tight or I'm not comfortable with using a wedge, so that worked just fine and I did exactly that twice, which helped save par.

How often did you hit 3w outside of those 2 and tee shots?

Par 5 second shots.

Also a couple holes the play is less than driver to avoid hazards, so I would have had to throttle back on driver for those. I'd rather hit a normal 3 wood than try to alter a driver swing.

This would be my set up. I Might go 7 instead of 8.
