WHen you started this question I was going to say RDR2 without hesitation.
Black ops 4 - I personally think that all these call of duty games are played out, they release a new one every year, they are largely indistinguishable from prior years also. However, the reason they are so popular is because they are fun as hell, if you have never played a video game before I guarantee you would love it. Multiplayer is more of you and your wife switching between games, but the games are so short it really isn't bad. Campaigns suck!
RDR2 - super immersive, amazing campaign. They have released a multiplayer but like Black ops its not two player. Worse its not easy to switch between people. If you and your wife would always play at the same time, this game would be a lot of fun, but FYI fights will probably break out if one of you plays missions and advances the story while the other is gone lol.
About your note on two player games, these have unfortunately largely died out, they are mainly represented by sports games.

blackout is fun but not worth the price of 60 bucks that includes the crappy multiplayer. Red dead.

Red dead is nothing but an interactive lullaby. Blops 4

If you want a grown man’s game, get R6 Siege

My laptop's storage was getting full up and I couldn't figure out what the big contributor was. Found my R6 file and it was close to 120GB's

Just the game and whatever updates up to that point, as of a few weeks ago.
ETA I have it on PS4 and it's pretty big there too.

It is. Battle Edition. Which is everything except zombies. So Multiplayer and Blackout.
But I just found out that edition is only for PC.
The OP is on console so this won't help him.

PC players can pick up Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Battle Edition for $29.99 until January 6, 2019. The price will go up to $39.99 after that date.

Continuous enjoyment from a multiplayer game or a weeks worth of enjoyment from a single player game? Both at $60 a pop.
Lol at beating the entire campaign of this game in a week... Unless you're playing virtually 24/7 it'll take longer than that.
Also RDR2 is actually a new game vs. a "new" COD when it's basically the same game as most of the other ones (let's face it, COD is the shooter version of sports games)
