ive been replaying rdr2 for the first time since i completed it back in 2018 and im just now getting into the st denis part of the game. for my money its the best chapter of the game and is probably my favorite city from any game as well. but, im me and not a resident. i have wondered what are this boards opinions of its depiction of very late 19th century new orleans? did they leave anything out that disappoints yall? how does this depiction compare to some other games that feature/depict new orleans?

Very cool section of the game.

I was too busy dragging everyone there into the swamps to be eaten by alligators to really notice the city itself

I just finished my second play through and had a great time. Such a good game.

Rdr2 is one of my favorite game’s of the PS4 era and probably imo the best non Jrpg story told in video game history. To answer your question St Dennis is both one of the best and worst parts of the game.
Narrative wise it appears at exactly the right moment and really drives home for anyone who somehow wasn’t picking up that men like Arthur and Dutch were relics of bygone era. Following the totally badass and amazing assault on the house I understand them wanting to give way to let the player breath a bit but I think they do this for too long. They introduce the Indian sun plot Cuban sub plots and probably more basically all at once with a hand wave. A minor nitpick I suppose. The mayors quest line is too easy to miss. It’s annoying as hell trying to get anywhere in that city and become wanted unless you’re willing to walk. Conversely, it begins the crescendo that culminates we Arthur’s death. It’s beautifully designed and uses the full power of the ps4. Has some of the best side content in the game IMO like the electric chair doctor. Culminates in the death of two beloved characters in a bloody shoot out. Oh and also gives us the assault on Bronte with a slow motion shotgun door kick big fan of that.

Insane that, on sale, this game is still 40 dollars on Steam.

I tried so hard to like this game and wanted to do bad but I found it to be a chore. Hated the errand running, lack of good fast travel, and the wanted system. I loved the first one, but for some reason this one just didn’t click with me.

assaulting the plantation is maybe my favorite mission in any game, ever

sad that the game basically peaked right there, though.
thought that would be the first of many epic catharsis moments. nope, it's the only one outside of the final sequence

It wouldn’t make much sense given the games story to have a big gang ride out badassery show like that again. In a way the mission serves as the finale for one game and starts a completely separate one.

I thought it was pretty cool when I got to it.
Loved seeing commander's palace!

I'm just playing the game for the first time, on my ps5. Loving it. I spent way too many hours hunting early on, and want to do more.
Just getting to Saint Denis, went to the mayor's gala. The most accurate thing about the whole New Orleans/Louisiana experience to me, so far, is something Dutch pointed out. The big mob boss in New Orleans is the guest of honor at the mayor's gala
When Dutch pointed that out I laughed out loud and thought "yup this is new Orleans alright"

Kind of feel like New Orlins, you know. I wondar if that is the cace.

My only complaint is that they weren't more missions in St. Denis. The city was beautifully created and the details are highly accurate for what New Orleans was like during the turn of the century. The only exception is that it lacks dozens of brothels and hundreds of whores. lol
